Drove for the first time in cold weather (3x degrees Fahrenheit) for the first time since changing my manual transmission fluid in my ~120k mile 2001 boxster 2.7 / five speed. Holy moly, rather than shifting stiffly when cold like I was used to, it shifts like butter!! The shift effort improvement after changing the tranny fluid was noticeable enough when warmed up, but now when stone cold on a very cold morning, this was huge, huge improvement!

Also, the defroster on the hardtop I just re-installed last weekend was very nice. Really happy with this the daily driver Boxster on the way in to work this morning! :)

And I must also add, the hydrophobic quality of the polished and sealed hardtop I put away last spring was still beading water like absolute craziness! I was greeted this morning to probably at least a hundred thousand awesome dewy water droplets in pretty much any size you can imagine from 1" on down...

Edit: and I think we've got to zoom on more on that last picture there, folks... (nice showing in the larger droplet of the lapis blue metallic color flake! :p )

Short Shifter kit install

Finally finished the machine shop work on my Chinese shifter kit and completed the install. Many thanks to the knowledgeable members of this great community for their experience and generosity. See you on the road!

Finished cleaning the throttle body and MAF. Battery had died (started last Thursday), but a charge fixed that. Was worried about the clamshell properly closing... but everything fit just fine.

Will order the vacuum line for the left side intake sleeve. Arghh.

Next... sleeves and plugs... then AOS.

Still getting out there cruising around some local lakes, hopefully for another week or 2 before snow and salted roads are here for the winter. Very comfortable inside with top up and seat heaters on (33degF outside), listening to Vikings postgame after their 38-30 win :)

Lovely B&W shot that really emphasizes the lines of a beautiful car.

Yesterday, we took the car for a nice cruise up the North Shore of Boston, through the NH Seacoast, and into Southern Maine. Chilly, but pretty day. Had given her an end of season exterior detail (wash, clay, machine polish, sealant and wax the weekend before).

Finally got my replacement muffler to the welder for modification. Let's hope it works.

We were in the area for a week’s holidays in August..
Absolutely beautiful.
Next time will be with the Boxster instead of the family transportation appliance.

At the end of October I bent one of my wheels beyond repair. I found one from a 2004 SE with a few gouges and scratches to replace it. I took it to the local tire and wheel place that sends their repairs out to a specialist in PA. They true the wheel, fill any gouges by welding metal, then repaint the wheel inside and out and it looks better than new. I was going to wait until it was time for new tires to have the other 3 wheels refinished, but this wheel came out so nice I decided to have my 3 other wheels done now and dropped them off today. Pictures below are of the wheel I bought and how it looked after repair and refinishing alongside my other front wheel which, although dirty, would not clean up as nicely as the refinished wheel.

Looks great Paul. If you don't mind me asking....how much does something like that cost? You can PM me if you don't want to post it here.

What did you do with/to your Boxster today?

Today, I replaced both dash speakers with Kicker 43CSC44's. The improvement
in sound quality, clarity and volume is gigantic. Straight off of the CDR-220 head
unit, no amp, no door or rear speakers.

$27.95 for the pair, a bit of retooling of the factory mounts and done.

Next project will be passenger side window regulator, possibly driver side as well
even though its working fine and not binding. Found a pair for just over $100, new
with a 3 year warranty.

Next project will be replacing the rear mud flaps, one is torn, might as well do both
while I'm at it.

Took it out in the snow. First drive with brand new Goodyear Ultragrip Ice 2, Nordic compund.

Great traction, until you turn the TC off (as you do) for some sideways action.

This wheel was $262 which included some truing, some welding and refinishing. Then $25 to mount and balance my tire. The wheel was completely cleaned and painted on the backside and the inside of the rim was painted too. My other 3 wheels need much less work so they should be cheaper!

What did you do with/to your Boxster today?

Fixed the lock on my fuel filler door by rotating the half moon rubber bushing so that the flat spot faces forward. After that, the latch locked the door down when the car is locked.

Not huge mileage by some Forum members’ standards, but i’ve put practically all of these on myself since buying it new in 2003

Walked by it today in the garage enroute to the Sienna for new front tires.

PaulE 12-01-2017 11:24 AM

I drove mine to work today. Hopefully this weekend I get some time to wash the exterior and find a volunteer to conscript into helping me install the hardtop. Right now my OBC says I have 95 miles to empty and it is about 55 miles to the gas station I'd like to go to which is 5 miles from home and en route. So I will drive conservatively and watch my computer. When I had my 1997 Z3, I once drove home from Lake Placid on a tank of gas and my OBC said it was 8 miles to empty when I finally stopped for gas. I've never taken the Boxster that low. I always think of the old Shell gas commercials when I do this, some of the other older members here might also remember those.
