Thanks

Let's see: About $500-600 for the IMS bearing kit and RMS parts at retail alone, plus 10-12 hours shop time..............based upon the quote, I'd think I would be a bit concerned.............

How is the eBay deal a steal? Just curious? It won't sell for $395 promise. I don't know a single eBay seller who doesn't have his **friend** step in right before you "win it" and false buy it for more.

The guy's quote is low. He has never tried to pull off a rusty/nasty Boxster muffler system!!

Seems low. However, if the shop is slow and needs the $750, they may do it. I would really look to see if the shop is qualified and has done this repair on a Porsche before. I wouldn't want my car to be his maiden voyage.

my IMS was the maiden voyage for my Indy. But my shop is a highly experienced one specializing in all vintage of Porsches and other high end cars. An IMS swap for a seasoned pro is a piece of cake. I've seen guys do this job in their backyards without a lift, without specialized tools, working solo. One guy even made his own RMS tool using pvc tubing. Granted the whole job took him over a week.

is it really that much time for an experienced shop? You figure 2.5 hours to remove the trans two hours to swap in the new parts and three hours to put back together and the mandatory oil change. At about $100 an hour labor that's ~$800 and another $600 for parts.

Yeah you're right that's too low.
