I thought this was symptomatic of the check value you mentioned, but you've already replaced yours (i haven't). Maybe the new valve is bad or has a loose connection? Open the fuel filler cap and push in the metal flap that covers the fuel opening with your finger - can you hear the valve "click" when you do this?
