If the RMS leaks to the point where it should be replaced, will I be able to notice the oil on the garage floor? Where would the oil drip from?

Yes, you will notice the stain. It is just at the juncture of the trans/engine, I would guess about rear axle location or so.

SoCal, with all those new panels covering the engine on the 987 it might not appear in the center of the car.

My 97 986 only has panels back to the engine. The cool picture you inserted above looks like they cover most of the engine, but not the cats or exhaust, for obvious reasons... HEAT.

Unfortunately though, leaving the back of the undercarriage uncovered like that kind of ruins a good portion of the aerodynamic benefit of having an undertray. There is a lot of wind turbulence created by the rear bumper cover and all that stuff back there--it's basically a big scoop that's scooping up air from underneath the car.

On every race car I've worked on, adding an undertray that just covered up the rear portion of the car up to even just the rear subframe had a tremendous effect on the car's handling and drag. We did leave the mufflers uncovered though and I suppose that might be a bit more difficult on a Boxster...
