UPGRADE or REPLACE Brakes

My rotors are gone. I have less then 22mm on them. According to some research, this is below the minimum thickness.

I have a 98 boxster, and my ABS light is on. Obviously.

I'm gonna need new rotors, but at the same time I want to upgrade to something else. Will it be worth it?!

I found some used from a 2000 boxster TYPE S caliper and rotor set for $1000, but new stock NON TYPE S will cost about $400-500 for all 4. What would you guys do?

I'm trying to save some money here, but at the same time, I think I'm missing out on a pretty good deal.
