Is this a good deal? 2002 boxster S $32999
I test drove this car today, the price seems low for a 2002 here in California, the sales guy said it's a lease return, single owner, bought from the Porsche auction. Been on the lot about 40 days, they dropped the price this weekend from $33499 to $32999 firm.
Mileage 29909
Exterior Color Gray
6 Speed
17" Wheels
VIN WP0CB29872U661337
There are a few small scratches, pebble dings, etc, but other than that the exterior and interior are in very good condition. It still has a little bit of warranty left.
Here's a link to the dealer's website ad.
Let me know what you guys think, I'm looking to buy sometime in the next few months, but I'm in no real hurry.

That is a fair price. Be sure to have it checked out by Porsche service and run a car fax BEFORE you buy the car.
Also, make sure Porsche service checks the frame and uses a paint meter on the finish.
Caveat Emptor.

What options does it have if any? Be extra careful with leased cars.

no other options that I know of, it seems to be pretty basic.
Brucelee, how much is it usually for Porsche service to check out a car, and how do you go about getting it from the dealer selling it to have it checked? I've only bought new cars in the past (much cheaper ones than a boxster) so I'm new to all this. Also since you're not too far from me, and you sell Porsches, can I have you find a car for me and I'll buy it through you?

The 17 inch wheels and 6 speed shifter are standard on an S...don't believe them if the dealer tells you otherwise. If the car is a total stripper then that price isn't a super deal. 01 and 00 models can be had with similar mileage for less money plus they have options. Porsche didn't change anything from 00-02 so I would look around at some better deals. The market for used boxsters is pretty soft right now.

The local dealer here charges $190 for a pre-purchase inspection. On balance, you want a different dealer inspecting the car vs the dealer who is selling it to you. You can find the Porsche dealer directory on line by using Google.
Yes, I would be happy to find a Boxster for you. Simply give me a call at 760-522-7327 and we can chat.
Good luck and thanks for the inquiry!

" Be extra careful with leased cars."
I would amend this advice slightly--"be careful with all cars!"

Oh for sure. I was just thinking that as a whole leased cars aren't pampered as much as cars that are bought. Of course there are exceptions everywhere. Like you said Caveat Emptor on any used purchase.

On the whole, leased cars are mixed bag as you suggest. Some are amazingly maintained, some are trashed. The middle cars are more of a challenge to evaluate.
With expertise and caution, one can score a very nice value. But as we both suggest, one must be diligent indeed!
