what is the best oil brand and weight to use?

I have a 2001 Boxster and was wondering what the best type of oil to use. I live in the Northeast. This is my 2nd oil change- the first one I used 10W40 MObil 1

I think each forum member has a different opinion on that!@ Do a search, and you should find many threads on the subject. Some swear by factory fill Mobil 1 0w40, but many( most? ) don't consider that to be a "good" oil anymore.
If you care about Porsche approval, the consensus seems to be Castrol Syntec 5w40. Of non-approved, a few like Red Line or Royal Purple, but I think Motul may be the best. ( I forget which Motul oil, but it's on LNengineering's web page)

I like the "sale version", but it has to be 10w40 synthetic.

Advanced Auto often has a 5 for 25 sale on Castrol Syntec. I pick up 10, order the filter online from PAP-Parts or even Ebay. Then I have a local oil change place that used to be a Mobil 1 change it for me. I provide teh oil filter wrench just to make it idiot proof. Works out to $80.

Mobil 1 has mixed views due to recent changes. Let's leave it at that.
