First nice day w/ new Boxster

Had my new to me 07 Boxster S for about 2 weeks now but between work travel, family issues and taking it to dealer to get airbag deactivation kit installed and top fixed, hadn't had much time to enjoy it. Today was a gorgeous afternoon (mid 70's and sunny) so was able to load up my 3.5 year old daughter, put the top down and drive around town running some errands. My daughter had an absolute blast, never having ridden in a convertible as did daddy. Couldn't be happier with the car.

You in Houston?? I am and it was 70 today so I was out as well. Nice day for a vert. Come summer we will be wishing we had a Cayman to avoid the heat somewhat but I will take the Boxster for the time being.

Happy Trails and enjoy the ride.

Close - Austin. Yes, not looking forward to another stretch of 30 100+ days in summer. Still have my RX-8 which is silver and should handle heat far better than black boxster.

Nomadic,

You'll relive that experience every spring. Trust me.

This is the first cold winter here in three years, and the first time the hardtop has been on in same period. Previous winters have had no more than a week w/o a top down day.

So I expect an even bigger renewal of top down-ism!

Enjoy the car and your daughter!

Overly cold natured Wifey wouldn't sit for the top down yesterday, but I had it down Saturday, most of the day. Upper 60s.
NICE!~!

I can only dream about days when I can actually drive the Box, let alone put the top down. We've been getting hammered with snow in northern Illinois!

Exactly what I was thinking. The 2006 and newer Boxster has smart air bag technology.

All I ever used in my 2006 987S was a booster seat and seat belt for my young daughters (6 years old at the earliest time). This was safe and meet State laws too.

I have an unrwitten rule, no matter sun or clouds....if the temp is at least 60 the top comes down. But be carefule doing this below 60 if you have the plastic window. You should blast the heat and drive for a a few minutes before lowering. I put a nice nickel width cut in the plastic. Now I have to replace despite the canvas being flawless. I'm holding out for 2003 OEM top from salvage.

They do - at a certain weight level, but the kit adds a key to disable and the latch hooks in the front seat which make it easier to secure the car seat as well as being able to completely disable the airbag regardless of current weight in the seat.

I'm here in NC and drive my 986 2000 pretty much every day, 10mi each way to work. My top comes down at 55-58+ (what can I say, I live on the edge). I too had a crack in my window and is hoping to get 2003 top as well. If by the end of this summer I can't find a 2003 top, I'm going with the glass window.

For you 2006 and newer Boxster owners, that are still dating, your car will tell you if your date weights more than 90 pounds!

If the "airbag disabled" light turns on, she weight about 90 pounds. If the light goes off, she's over 90 pounds.

Hmm...the light in my 06 turns on when I put my work gym bag in the seat, which weighs 25 pounds tops.

That's correct. 25 pounds is less than 90 pounds. The bag weights enough for the system to know that something is in the passanger seat, but not big (heavy) enough to activate the air bag.
