This is the wording directly from our owner's manual (I have it on PDF).

Engine Oil Recommendation
Recommended oil viscosity ranges dependent on ambient temperatures
Ambient temperature seasonal SAE Viscosity Range engine oils
generally above -13°F (-25°C ) SAE 0W-40, 5W-40, 5W-50 approved by Porsche
generally below -13°F (-25°C ) SAE 0W-40 approved by Porsche

The 'generally below-13F(-25C)' is the interesting point. Although it does list above -13F the three viscosities, it makes the special note regarding 0W40 for the lower general temperature. We store for the winter and operate in the warmer months, so I can't see why 5W-40 can't be used.
