Where, oh where, did you find 0w40? Which Canadian Tire?
I've looked for years and years and never come across 0w40.
I buy from Chalmers Fuels (Esso dealer) in Georgetown, about $9 per litre.
I often look on Canadian Tire shelves, but never see the 0w40.

Just picked it up on sale last weekend for $7.79litre at the Bolton Canadian Tire. I saw it in the Brampton CT(Trinity Common) as well. So far, Wal-Mart is not carrying that weight. Have you always used 0W40? I used it this time but might switch to 5W40, as per the owner's manual, next year.

Never used anything other that Mobil 1 0w40.
My Audi TT uses the same; therefore I pickup a few boxes at a time.
Will try the Brampton CT location this week.

Garage
delvac1 5w40

i have been using the mobil delvac1 5w40 for years, it runs me about $120 per case of 16l but i've been happy with the test result in the tdi and 1.8T

recently i even ran petrocan duron 5w40 syn to see how it goes, need to do an oil sample and see how its been.

the last info i had for the delvac1 showed better additive package than the run of the mill mobil

don't know the current makeup, and as stated a filter is under $20.00, 9 l oil maybe $50.00 can't justify paying anyone $300+, sounds like i should trade in my engineering degree and start wrenching (again)
