				White , the new Silver!

			White Wins; Silver Fades
According to a story in the NYT:

WHITE has nudged out silver as the most popular automobile color in North America, ending silver’s seven-year run at the top. According to DuPont’s annual color survey, released last month, 19 percent of the cars and trucks sold in North America in 2007 were white and 18 percent were silver.

Im no hater and wouldnt mind white actually thinking about painting it that (ex.auto body tech.) The boxster looks sweet white and I have a hard top and beige int. BUT... Heres the thing I believe in the mid 80s it was silver or silver/blue. I think it was in 91' I was at the local target and I actually counted 18 white cars in a row in the same row side by side and I think one empty space in there. not to mention there were white cars nose to nose. Thats why(I think) to say white is the new silver is white, is a joke, I say 90s but there is noting wrong with the 90s.

				Nyt???

...of course you can believe everything you read in the NYT right???? Silver fades??? How many have you seen faded silver? Of course the P-cars you see are usually well taken care of and garaged. ANY paint will fade if left out in the elements. I had a white MR2 once but didn't keep it long enough to see if the paint faded, after second blown head gasket I let it go. No supercharger either, naturally aspirated but I digress. Any well taken care of P-car in any color rocks but I will stick with my silver for the time being.

I think they were using a play on words - as in silver fades into 2nd place behind white.

I think white looks good on very few cars. On a 4 door sedan, minivan, or SUV it is somewhat boring (in my opinion.)
Several sports cars can pull in off like corvettes and Boxsters (again, in my opinion)

Of course I also think it looks good in the car in my sig |

When I was dealing Porsches, I stayed away from white. There were not many and they simply did not move.
Having said that, I think a white Porsche CAN look great, depending on wheels, interiro etc.

I like a white box with tan leather.

PS- There are all kinds of white. My Lexus has a nice pearl metallic effect in the white paint which looks very rich.

It wouldn't be my choice, but ddb's Box with hardtop is strikingly beautiful.
I fell for white back in the 70s and early 80s when Porsche introduced that brilliant "refrigerator" white. It looked great on 935s with Martini colors!

Was going to paint my silver 911S that color with flares, duckbutt, and glass bumpers. But my ex planted the car in the iceplant patch at the CA Hwy 78 exit off I5 near Carlsbad. And the guy who salvaged it painted it black.
