White , the new Silver!
White Wins; Silver Fades
According to a story in the NYT: WHITE has nudged out silver as the most popular automobile color in North America, ending silver’s seven-year run at the top. According to DuPont’s annual color survey, released last month, 19 percent of the cars and trucks sold in North America in 2007 were white and 18 percent were silver. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/27/automobiles/27BEAM.html?_r=1&ref=automobiles&oref |
You should make a poll on the forum to see if that's also the case! :D
Mine is triple black  |
Carrara White rocks! :)
|
Rocks 200%!
|
I'll have to agree
|
i love white :)
|
I agree with all the above comments. Mine is Biarritz White, but they all rock!
|
Mine is Biarritz white also!!!!
|
Whoa...looks like I'm getting outnumbered here! :troll:
Hey, where's the other folks with COLORS other than WHITE????? Maybe WHITE is the NEW SILVER??? :D |
Oh wow, this just in, the Ford F-150 is the most popular vehicle sold! Guess we should all get white F-150s and claim our winnings!!
White always looks like government/work vehicle to me. If the IRS was going to buy a Boxster, it would probably be white. That is quite enough for me. -David |
Nyt???
...of course you can believe everything you read in the NYT right???? Silver fades??? How many have you seen faded silver? Of course the P-cars you see are usually well taken care of and garaged. ANY paint will fade if left out in the elements. I had a white MR2 once but didn't keep it long enough to see if the paint faded, after second blown head gasket I let it go. No supercharger either, naturally aspirated but I digress. Any well taken care of P-car in any color rocks but I will stick with my silver for the time being.
AKL  |

AKL [/QUOTE] I think they were using a play on words - as in silver fades into 2nd place behind white. |
I think white looks good on very few cars. On a 4 door sedan, minivan, or SUV it is somewhat boring (in my opinion.)
Several sports cars can pull in off like corvettes and Boxsters (again, in my opinion) Of course I also think it looks good in the car in my sig :D |
When I was dealing Porsches, I stayed away from white. There were not many and they simply did not move.
Having said that, I think a white Porsche CAN look great, depending on wheels, interiro etc. I like a white box with tan leather. PS- There are all kinds of white. My Lexus has a nice pearl metallic effect in the white paint which looks very rich. :) |
It wouldn't be my choice, but ddb's Box with hardtop is strikingly beautiful.
I fell for white back in the 70s and early 80s when Porsche introduced that brilliant "refrigerator" white. It looked great on 935s with Martini colors! Was going to paint my silver 911S that color with flares, duckbutt, and glass bumpers. But my ex planted the car in the iceplant patch at the CA Hwy 78 exit off I5 near Carlsbad. And the guy who salvaged it painted it black. |
I can't understand why anyone would forego the pleasure of REAL colour on a canvas as large & intense as a car, especially beautifully formed ones like our Boxsters. White, black, grey or silver all seem like wasted aesthetic opportunity to me.

Hi, I get compliments everywhere i go with my Boxster, especially at the ice cream parlour while enjoying a Vanilla CORNET :D

Love white! I fully intend on getting white for my next car. I guess i'm a perfect example of the trend, ready to go from silver to white. I really find the silver to be pretty boring.
I especially like white on sports cars that have accents (air intakes etc..), creates great contrast. For example the new M3 looks sweet in white. |
I'm just waiting for the tree huggers to blame this on global warming. :barf:
|
I can dig white. I think cars that look like Stormtroopers are cool.
Bad news for paint shops... white is the hardest color to match/blend. http://www.kryzak.com/storage/986-stormtroopers.jpg |
