Nice looking Porsches.

The "racing strip" is part of the Special Edition Cayman (I forget what its called)

I have not liked the strip in other pictures but it looks subtle enough that I like it.

Growing up the car magazines said how amazing Porsches are. Was I brainwashed? Somehow...I doubt it.

Didn't realize they arrive to the dealer de-badged, I assume they add the trunk designation at the dealer? 70K?, wow, we yanks get quite a break here in the US, an '07 would sell for 10-15K less here. I looked at an '07 Cayman S (brand new) last month for 59K, anyways, great car, enjoy!

Thanks for all the comments.

There is nothing in it! there is a lot more low down power on the Box S under 3k rpm etc, when the Cayman goes over 4k rpm it is very quick and has the box then.

I think it is neck and neck. stats are within 0.1 and 1mph to the good of the Cayman but those details make no differance in the real world

5 positives already:

1) driving position is 50% better
2) The gear change is amazing
3) The Exhaust note, its a Porsche sports exhaust £2k upgrade
4) every single person i pass stares, literally stops and stares from old ladies to young boys, 24hours of ownership and have had more people point at me than in 5 months of Boxster ownership
5) Thumbs up from a guy in a Black 997 turbo

Negatives:

1) No soft top
2) no red calipers
3) im tired i need to goto bed and cant stop getting up to see the moonlight bounce of its curves

Im going to de-badge mine it looks better imho and i wonder if it can be De-Snorcled?? does anyone Know?/

Thanks
James

This makes so much sense to me.

I like the Cayman a lot. I almost bought a CS -- but didn't. I got nervous if I could live the "porsche lifestyle".

So, I set out to buy a used Boxster at a lower price point. I rationalized that it would be an opportunity to prove that a p-car could be my daily driver. Well, of course it turns out I spent a bit more than I intended -- but I ended up with a low miles S.

After 3 months of ownership, I am convinced that I've found the car for me.

My next car will be a mid-engined Porsche too, and it might just be a Cayman S.

I think you are dead right, of course i would prefer a S edition, but that wasnt on the table and in truth i didnt wnt to sell the BoxsterS but hey things in life are sometimes exciting. I dont keep cars long and neither does my dad so possibly i will have the Design Edition Cayman S by the summer!!

im loving the sports exhaust, but dont understand what the exhaust button or suspension button on the centre consol are supposed to do??

Can anyone help?? cant find the Porsche documents, they are prob in his desk at work!!

James

I can't help with the function of those buttons. Maybe one day I'll have a p-car with those buttons then I'll have to figure it out!

I liked the base Cayman a lot too. I didn't mean to make a big deal out of the 'S'. One of my other real concerns with the CS was the amount of cabin noise. That was much less of a problem at all with the base Cayman. I'd be curious to know what you think of cabin noise. To me, the Cayman S is a much louder car than the Boxster.

I went with an 986 Boxster S (an '02). There was a more pronouced difference for me buying an '02S vs. the '99 with the 2.5 liter which is what I was initially considering...

well ive got to say cabin noise from the tyres is quite loud, I do think the looks of the cayman beside the boxster are so different,Cayman is so much prettier than the 986. in a weird way it reminds me of the Ferrari F430 from certain angles, im positive the Red has a lot to do with it.

I wouldnt have bought a nonS boxster. But i would buy a non S 911 and although the Cayman is of boxster genetics, i do think they are total oposites. and my theory works.

The Exhaust button should be to activate the Sport Exhaust = make it louder.
The suspension button should activate Sport Suspension = Tighten up the handling.
Let us know what you figure out.

James,

Go to the Porsche website. There should be a detailed explanation of Sport Exhaust and Sport Suspension. I don't have these on my car but one of my friends with a 987 does. The Sport Exhaust button opens two valves to allow some of the gases to bypass the muffler. You probably won't notice much difference until you really wind her up.

My friend doesn't get too excited about the Sport Exhaust but he loves the Sport Suspension for track days.
