My NEW CAR its another PORSCHE!!!!

I only bought my 986 S on August the 1st but after a short fling in which i have fallen in love with the Porsche lifestyle and brand. Abit of buisness came in front of me and i had no option but to grab it with both hands.

I have bought a (july) 07 Porsche Cayman has 10k on the clock and heaps of options on it, i have yet to check the extras as i dont know the standard spec. i will update as i learn, or if you ask me has it got something then i can answer( it doesnt have satnav ) i paid slighty over £35000 GBP 70000 USD

has : Sports Exhaust, 19" wheels, different seats(dont know type), different suspension (again dont have details) heated seats, PSM, rear wiper thats all i noticed as i only collected it (from my Dad) at 7 last night.

I plan to fit the wheels of my current 986S it also needs a good clean so that is sunday sorted.
Anyway i would love to stay part of this forum as i cant be bothered starting again somewhere else, i hope that is not a problem. And im sure the things i have with the Cayman are the same as people and the 987 boxster.
Would love to get some feedback on my decision.

James

Nice! Congrats.

Very nice, dude!

Man, the more I see the PD Cayman S the more I like it. Hmmm.....

Topless 12-19-2007 06:29 AM

Looks great. The Cayman is my favorite current production Porsche. I believe it is the new flagship Porsche now. They just haven't told the 911 guys yet. :D :D Anyway a hardtop is probably more practical in Aberdeen Scotland... but we don't buy a Porsche because it is practical do we.

TuChat, I also think you are correct with the cayman, it looks nicer than the 911 imho when parked beside each other and when you sit in it your seating position is lower than a 911 and boxster which makes it feel more of a solid ride.

I love soft tops look at my car list mylast 4 have been cabrolets. I will keep the caymen till may/june then either get a newer Box S or 996 C4S cab or even Ferrari 355 spider depends on my mood at the time.

I have a few clients who are 911 guys through and through and 3 of 5 are changing to Caymens.

Possibly the standard c2 c4 are going to be oblique in the future.

I like both of those! Congrats!
But are those racing stripes on the black one, sort of out of place on such a nice car.

djomlas 12-19-2007 09:29 AM

very nice man, congrats.
butt hat rear wiper completely kills it.

love the red

gmboxster 12-19-2007 11:46 AM

Congrats !! Good job. I would love to have a Caymen. I also think they are the best lookin of the Porsche line (although I love my boxster). Stick around on the forum and let us know how you like it.

blkboxster 12-19-2007 11:50 AM

Very nice, which do you think is faster, this new cayman, or the boxster s

vincesf 12-19-2007 11:55 AM

Nice looking Porsches.

The "racing strip" is part of the Special Edition Cayman (I forget what its called)

I have not liked the strip in other pictures but it looks subtle enough that I like it.

Didn't realize they arrive to the dealer de-badged, I assume they add the trunk designation at the dealer? 70K?, wow, we yanks get quite a break here in the US, an '07 would sell for 10-15K less here. I looked at an '07 Cayman S (brand new) last month for 59K, anyways, great car, enjoy!

Thanks for all the comments.

There is nothing in it! there is a lot more low down power on the Box S under 3k rpm etc, when the Cayman goes over 4k rpm it is very quick and has the box then.

I think it is neck and neck. stats are within 0.1 and 1mph to the good of the Cayman but those details make no differance in the real world

5 positives already:

1) driving position is 50% better
2) The gear change is amazing
3) The Exhaust note, its a Porsche sports exhaust £2k upgrade
4) every single person i pass stares, literally stops and stares from old ladies to young boys, 24hours of ownership and have had more people point at me than in 5 months of Boxster ownership
5) Thumbs up from a guy in a Black 997 turbo

Negatives:

1) No soft top
2) no red calipers
3) im tired i need to goto bed and cant stop getting up to see the moonlight bounce of its curves

Im going to de-badge mine it looks better imho and i wonder if it can be De-Snorcled?? does anyone Know?/

Thanks
James

This makes so much sense to me.

I like the Cayman a lot. I almost bought a CS -- but didn't. I got nervous if I could live the "porsche lifestyle".

So, I set out to buy a used Boxster at a lower price point. I rationalized that it would be an opportunity to prove that a p-car could be my daily driver. Well, of course it turns out I spent a bit more than I intended -- but I ended up with a low miles S.

After 3 months of ownership, I am convinced that I've found the car for me.

My next car will be a mid-engined Porsche too, and it might just be a Cayman S.

I think you are dead right, of course i would prefer a S edition, but that wasnt on the table and in truth i didnt wnt to sell the BoxsterS but hey things in life are sometimes exciting. I dont keep cars long and neither does my dad so possibly i will have the Design Edition Cayman S by the summer!!

im loving the sports exhaust, but dont understand what the exhaust button or suspension button on the centre consol are supposed to do??

Can anyone help?? cant find the Porsche documents, they are prob in his desk at work!!

I can't help with the function of those buttons. Maybe one day I'll have a p-car with those buttons then I'll have to figure it out!

I liked the base Cayman a lot too. I didn't mean to make a big deal out of the 'S'. One of my other real concerns with the CS was the amount of cabin noise. That was much less of a problem at all with the base Cayman. I'd be curious to know what you think of cabin noise. To me, the Cayman S is a much louder car than the Boxster.

I went with an 986 Boxster S (an '02). There was a more pronouced difference for me buying an '02S vs. the '99 with the 2.5 liter which is what I was initially considering...

Mike

Bambino Don 12-20-2007 05:20 PM

well ive got to say cabin noise from the tyres is quite loud, I do think the looks of the cayman beside the boxster are so different,Cayman is so much prettier than the 986. in a weird way it reminds me of the Ferrari F430 from certain angles, im positive the Red has a lot to do with it.

I wouldnt have bought a nonS boxster. But i would buy a non S 911 and although the Cayman is of boxster genetics, i do think they are total oposites. and my theory works.
