So, you got me thinking. It really wouldn't be that much of a stretch.
I'd have to do a double wishbone in the front and to be honest that would be easier and safer to do than what I did. I'd mount the top A arm to the frame rail and use the stock lower rails.
The suspension in the front would be a cantilever. With the dampeners and springs horizontal somewhere. The only issue I have with this is that the 986 uses Mcpherson struts which put the load of the vehicle on the top of the strut towers. The lower control arms are not made to support the weight of the car (you can just look at the lower ball joint to see how weight on them would shatter them). The knuckle has to bear the weight of the car. The cantilever setup would have to incorporate this. That would be the trick.
^^^After I re-read what I wrote I thought more on this. You could just beef up the upper control arms and use them as the load bearing arm just like on the old Mustangs.... It would just look awkward as hell (like the old Mustangs).
The rear suspension could be mostly like what I did here on this car.
The body would be the priciest part. Cause.... IDK where to get a replica 906. And I'm sure the replicas are more expensive than I'd like to purchase.
BUT>>> all this thought aside I probably won't do this. I love the 906 don't get me wrong, but its out of my price range for a body. AND I want to build a C3 next...... A C3 with a Jaguar V12 in it. I got the V12 bug. LOL
C3's can be had for about 1 or 2 thousand dollars, and Jag V12's are a $500 affair. Toss on an interior kit, some odds and 'n's and nice paint and you're looking at my typical $10 000 car. Thats how much I put into my daily boxster (the chevy 4.3 car) and thats what I have in my "RX986". They are both fun cars and I would hate to be in $20 000 in a car. That would make me feel icky.
