Simple Green followed up by a pressure washer.
It came out really well.

Source an OE pulley and install it for the IMSR procedure and put your aftermarket unit back on when done.

If you’re not sure of the vehicle’s service history, you might also consider replacing the fuel filter as well.
They should be done...

The early 5 chain cars can be noisier, though it’s typically chain tensioners that are the source of the noise...
