It’s been a hella long while since I’ve visited and I’m hoping someone can lend some advice.
I’ve spent the last week blowing through the search feature pretty thoroughly but haven’t found any specifics to my issues.
Cue the sad story…
After almost 25 years the original plastic back window started to split where it folds over on itself.
A couple of local auto upholstery shops quoted $1400 CAD 😣 to sew in another window but stated I’d still see the edge of the old window as it would be sewn in underneath and the old one cut out.
Oh yeah, and no guarantee they’d be able to sew it in even following the line of the original stitching or that it would be perfectly water tight either.
No thanks.
After searching online, I did find a filthy OEM 4 bow roof at a nearby-ish auto recycler on a poor 2003 Boxster S that took a really hard hit on the front left corner. The car was wrecked in 2021 with the roof stowed down and stayed that way since.
For $400, I gambled and took it home.
It cleaned up miraculously well considering it’s been subjected to three Canadian winters and summers in a dirty and dusty auto wrecker’s yard.
It took almost 31/2 hours, but my son and I wrestled off the original roof and I installed it on my 2000 Boxster S just before putting it away for winter hibernation.
Now for the reason I’ve bored you thus far…
I have questions about adjusting it so it closes as well as the original top did.
When folding the top down, it lifts off the header after a short delay and the latch hook catches on the wind stop as the roof lowers.
When putting up the roof, the clamshell opens normally and the roof rises up, but the roof’s front weatherstrip drags on the roll bar honeycombs and yep, one side of the clamshell stutters as it moves too.
I’ve made no changes to the drive mechanism or push rods at all, just hooking it all up as it was on the original top.
Suggestions?
Ideas?
I’m all ears.
It’s good to be back,
Steve
