Rear S brakes on base car if e-brake removed?

I have a base Boxster but I need to fit some S calipers and rotors. It sounds like the fronts will bolt up but the rears won’t work with the base e-brake. If the e-brake assembly was removed would they work?

I don't know, but I have a rear hub and rotor assembly from a base and S in storage. I may have time this weekend to pull them apart and get a look and pics.

I read where Pedro moved the base front brakes to the rear so that may be an option?

The rear S brakes aren't worth the hassle or $$. The beefier S uprights and larger hub bearing are worth the hassle and $$. I say go all the way or not at all

Thanks but I think Woodies right. I should swap out the entire assembly. Very nice of you to offer measuring!

If you swap the lot, the S hub uses a larger wheel bearing so you need use different axles.

The S discs and calipers will just bolt on if you don't care about the handbrake. It's a negligible upgrade, couple of mm thicker and larger disc. Not worth losing the handbrake over in my opinion.

I've just cobbled together a big brake upgrade on the rear of mine using 991 GT3 Cup discs (380mm) and Lotus Evora 400 calipers.

WOW! That looks amazing. Do those fit under a 17” wheel? What are you running in the front? What kinda power do you have? This seems like a massive setup

I bought 19's just to clear the brakes. Up front i've got 991 GT3 Cup discs (380x34) with Brembo 8 pots (Audi R8).

My car is 405bhp, 475ft/lb currently, should see a bit more when I tune for methanol.

Which axles do you use when you swap everything?

Would think 987 5 speed might be a straight fit. They wouldn't have the tone ring for the wheel speed sensor though.

I’m not sure what axles I’m going to run. I’m the middle of a big engine swap and am probably swapping a 987 S trans in (that or an Audi 01E). My rear wheels have an offset 4”s greater than stock so I’d welcome the larger wheel bearings. I’ll probably go for the full “S” swap.

I went 987 S gearbox in my first 986 S you need to swap the ends of the drive shafts over to keep the tone rings.

If I blow my 5 speed I'll be swapping to the 987 S again.

Thanks! I just read through that entire thing, super impressive and the first build’s fire was heart breaking. I need to add a fire system to mine stat and call my insurance company to make sure they would cover it with the all these modifications. The R8 front calipers you used are super tempting, there’s a set on eBay for $600 right now but it looks like the only rotor that would work is the 991 cup rotors that are $1400 pair. I wonder if the R8 rotor has the same spacing as the 991 rotor.

Thanks, I still haven't got over the fire completely, was tough to take.

The disc's are expensive new but the race teams do 1 race meeting on them and replace them. It means there must be lots of sets knocking about. Could be worth a call to any race teams that run a GT3 Cup, they might be able to sell you a used set.

I bought 2 sets so 8 discs for £200 which is £25 a disc. Think I got mega lucky there. I was only planning on upgrading the fronts but since I had the rears decided to give it a go.

The off the shelf upgrade options are expensive.
