Oil drain pan and filter wrench

Hey I’m in the market for a new oil drain pan and filter wrench for a NAPA Gold 1042 what do you guys use? I am deep sumped so I’ll have about 10 1/2 L coming out. I like the look of the combined container and pan style but it looks like it’s going to splash all over the place when used. what are your thoughts?

I use the same tub as Keith. Works great. It'll be fine under the car on ramps.

I went for the ramps and I am way too lowered for them .....in a bit of a bind with only my race jack on hand to do a staged lift up on to stands using rear suspension mounting points. It will be a process. Hopeful the oil will still be warm once up

I use the Hopkins FloTool 42003MI 16-Quart Drain Container purchased at Walmart for under $15 at the time. I use a shipping box, perfect size in my case, to put the oil container in so I can drag it without wearing the plastic down and prevent any excess spills to the floor. It's been working great for the past few years. I do a few oil changes before dumping it at the local Autozone. I use rhino ramps and there's enough room.

I have the same one as Keith, works great. I bought it at princess auto after I had an accident with my 10 liter one, I think it was under $20.00 including tax.

Also, IIRC, I drilled some extra holes under the cap where the oil drains into the container

I tried both of these....an eight inch diameter is doable if you are careful. The advantage here is the oil is all packed up and ready to go right after you drain it.

Yes I was able to do it on ramps as long as I slid under on cardboard like an animal :eek. I did get a tie down to the eye and nose....

I use the same one. I can do oil changes on the Box and my BMW then seal it up for a single trip to dump at Advanced Auto.

And am a big believer. Super easy to move the drained oil around without any worry of spilling and pouring into the used oil bottles for recycling is a snap. The splash pad ensures there won't be any issue with splatter and losing the drain plug.

I'm seriously considering an oil extractor pump for my TDI Touareg (Tow Pig). Does anyone use an extractor on their 986? Seems like a clean easy way to do oil changes without pulling the plug.

Any recommendations for an extractor? "Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus" is what I'm thinking.

I have a recommendation: DO NOT USE AN EXTRACTOR, change the oil the way it was designed to be changed.

Over the years, we have had numerous Porsche's flat bedded to the shop because someone got the tube down into the sump, and then could not get it out. There are just too many edged surfaces that can catch and trap an extraction tube, making it impossible to pull out from the top. When that happens, the sump cover has to come off and the tube pulled out from the bottom. Bad idea.

8" doesn't give a lot of wiggle room.

Yeah that what thought as well, while 8 inches is a very good number in certain regimes, catching splashing hot oil is another ball park

I may give it a go as the other features are good......wheels, storage and secure transport.

I went out and bought a similar wrench on Amazon. Thanks for the feedback.
