Attached is a link that has a picture by Woody that shows 2 transmissions, the left is a 97 base 5 speed and should look like yours.

S muffler on 98 base?

Thanks for the link. It looks almost identical to mine accept for the one part which I've circled in the pic below in black. I dunno if that's because he's got something attached to his.

Looks like a good match except as you say for the lug you circled. In the pic I attached you can see a bulkhead/ stiffening rib running through that area.

Then again I found this gearbox out of a 99 and it has the same lug as mine.

EDIT: As long as Audi and VW don't use the same coding system as Porsche IE CWA12127 I should be ok
