Top stuck open

I have a 2000 with the roof stuck open position. It is a B. Check the fuses, the double rely, and micro switch at latch and brake. Functioning. When I press the switch to close the roof I can hear a short motor sound from what seems to be center back. Sounds as if it is initially trying to open and then stops. Any idea what my next move should be?

New owner, 3 months. (and I'm not sure how this posting works.)

Does your clam shell (the part that covers the top when its down) move? If so, check this out:

Easy and cheap repair.

No the clam shell doesn't move at all.

If you have your owner's manual, it will show you the procedure for manually closing/opening the roof. Basically, you use the rod in the tool kit (also assuming you have one) with the red plastic cover over the tip. Looks like a big flat screwdriver blade. With this you will carefully pry of the ball joints from the push rods (see above video). This way, at least you can close the top, get it in service position, and begin to diagnose the issue.

Thanks. That was a lot easier than expected. I'm a little unsure as to what I'm looking for next.

Great! I'm not an expert, but I would start with checking fuses (although it sounds like your motor may be working), check to make sure bolts are secure on the push rods and clam shell struts, make sure the "boomerang" is turning when the motor is engaged, and check to make sure the top cables (sort of like a speedo cable) is not twisted up or stripped where it connects to the motor.
