It will work if you lift the rear, sit it down on a 2 x 4 or similar raised item, them pop the liftbars on. I have been concerned about the involved process of lifting the car without this device. I do not like lifting off the factory jackpoints.

Yes, thats right. When I take my Boxster to AutoX, I jack it all the way up in the rear and I can change both tires that way.

Exactly. No need for a device like this on a 986 (or a 996). Just jack at the rear jack point and the entire side of the car will come up high enough to get jack stands under the car.

That's what I was thinking. He lost me at the part about having to jack up the car so that you could jack up the car.

Sorry, that seems way too unstable for my tastes. The first side might be ok, but then lifting high in the rear to get that second side up on the stands would give me the willies. Further, it would be a tedious task to adjust the heigth of the stands once the car was on them - again, you are creating an unstable situation. The liftbars take minutes to lift the car with, couldn't be simpler or safer. Anyway, ymmv, but that's my experience for what it's worth.

Any kind of backup is not only smart, but confidence-inspiring. Used to employ a squat log or two, but they can be quite heavy to move around.

I have two floor jacks and keep them in-place for additional precaution.
