I misunderstood that part. What about the Boxster? Is 7k safe to touch often or is that super-stressful?

Yes, 7000 is safe and so is 7200, though the stock 3.2 falls flat by 6800...

7K, maybe safe, but not a good idea?

Why? The engine internals were designed for it. It's balanced well enough to do it in relative smoothness (big heavy fly wheel doesn't hurt). What part of the car do you think you're damaging/abusing?

Eh, I've hit the rev limiter plenty of times in my 987 (2.7L ), and frequently hit 6800 or so .

Redline is no worry.
After 60+ track days, where every shift is made at or near redline, my engine must have nearly 10,000 runs up to redline: upshift 4 times a lap x 10 laps a session x 4 sessions a day x 60 days = ~9,600 shifts at redline. I try not to bounce the RPM's off the rev limiter but occasionally do so. 126,000 miles and the engine runs perfect.
And the Boxster engine is just starting to come alive at 4,000 rpm and if you're always shifting there, then you're missing a major part of the enjoyment of your car because at 4,000 rpm the Variocam timing unleashes the power and the exhaust wails the song of Porsche.
My advice: Drive it like you stole it.

I did notice this, that's why I don't think I've been to 7k.

I shouldn't have mentioned my other car, hope nobodies going to try revving that high in a Boxster.
Thanks for clearing that up.
