aluminum flywheel/solid disc clutch

So I did my ims bearing, installed my aasco flywheel, installed the new ud pulley, replaced all the idler pulleys, replaced the belt, installed a new water pump, installed a new 160° thermostat, powder coated my calipers, reglued the top to the frame, cleaned out the intake, etc etc etc.

All done while waiting for my new double sprung spec stage 1 clutch to show up so I could put it back together. It finally did today. It was ordered on the 5th.

Who cares about the wait!! Who cares that the tracking doesn't show it leaving their warehouse until the freaking 13th!! Today was the day the car starts getting put back together!!!!

Open the clutch and its a solid disc. Go back and check the description and sure as crap, it goes on and on about how double sprung it is and the benefits of being double sprung, etc. I verify all the part numbers, yep... good to go.

So this car should have been on the road a week ago. I'm supposed to drive it to Vegas the first week of April. Hotels have been bought and promises have been made. I don't know what to do.

Advice?

Was your clutch from Spec? Same thing happened to me - ordered sprung, but solid showed up. And, they had to get the solid back before they'd send me the sprung one. UGH!

Find an alternate vendor and have what you need 2 day aired. Send the incorrect part back to original vendor for refund. Do it now or Vegas is a no go...

I just got a Sachs 4 spring clutch kit with unique housing, throw out bearing and spacers - ALL for ONLY $357!!!!

It was shipped out late Monday and it arrived at my door today.

It looks GENUINE! Now it someone can tell me the where the spacers go and which orientation the throw out bearing goes in….I would be great! Maybe I can find some instructions online.

This is exactly my situation. The description clearly states sprung clutch. When I ordered it, they looked at my application and just assumed that I really wanted a solid disc per the OEM. So, after waiting a month, that's what I got. Solid disc. They have said I could send it back and they would send me a sprung hub. Problem is I don't have another month to wait. The solid disc is going in and I'll just replace the disc with a sprung disc when I have more time. We'll see how that works out... I don't plan on missing my trip, giving up all my deposits, and very likely parking the car for the entire summer waiting on a ********************ing clutch disc to show up.

Wow, who would have thought buying a clutch would turn into such an ordeal. Lol. Of course, we could always just drop the $1000 on a clutch that some people charge and hope they get it right.

At this point, I'm starting to get a little jealous of the $27 Honda guys pay for their clutch discs... I wonder if theres a custom fabrication opportunity there... a Porsche spline center hung on a sprung hub clutch that doesn't have the obscene prices associated with the Porsche name.

they have this clutch kit in a sprung version it is kit# K70290-01 - it showed up WITH SPRINGS but spindle was wrong size, flywheel was wrong bolt pattern, Throw Out Bearing was HUGE! Definitely not a fit. I am talking to their "product specialists" tomorrow in the AM about it. Would be good to have several members remind them they are or will be losing money IF they do not get it right! I'm sure they will. They have at least matched the picture! now if we can only get the parts that fit.

The Sachs toll free number is: 800-321-0784 and tell them the make and model, or give them this number and ask to speak to a specialist.

They are sending: TYP GMFZ 225 (printed on clutch housing)
The OLD Type is: TYP MF228 / MF240

They start at 8:00 AM CST, so the more that call in about this - the better! Especially if you want a 4 Spring Clutch….in the RIGHT SIZE! Looks good in the picture though - at least we're making progress!

No Joy! Sachs DOES NOT offer a sprung clutch!

The reseller got the "right" part number but Sachs put the wrong clutch in the box. The pictures are NOT what Sachs ACTUALLY produces.

Sachs only offers an unsprung clutch as a replacement, except in their sport division (twice the price).

Just thought I would set the record straight.

As J points out, Spec will produce a sprung disc. You just have to be sure to specify that's what you want. Even though their description clearly states it's a sprung disc and even though the vender's description very likely says the exact same thing, you will get a solid disc. The problem is when you order it, you have to specify your type of vehicle. Everyone will look at that order and assume you want a solid disc just like OEM calls for. All that business about double hung spring blah blah blah that they make such a huge deal about in the their descriptions and close up pictures etc goes right out the window the second you tell them you drive a Box. You have to deliberately go through the hoops to make sure everyone in the supply chain knows that you want a sprung disc. If you don't, you'll be stuck waiting for your disc, realize its wrong when it gets there, make a bunch of calls and get all pissed off, mail the disc back, and then have to wait again while they modify it and send it back to you. It sucks.

On the plus side, though my vendor and/or spec dropped the ball on shipping, the price was decent ($425) and they were all really awesome about the wanting to help correct the situation. The problem on my end was just timing but honestly, I'll probably give them another shot when I pull the solid disc back out next winter to swap in a sprung disc. Spec also offers an aluminum pressure plate that I might just try out too.
