Rear Spoiler

Hi, my rear spoiler does not operate at speed. It works fine with the manual switch both up and down, when left up from the switch it retracts when stopped.

I have swapped the relays in the rear compartment with no change to the problem.
Anybody any ideas where I start to look?

As it is speed controlled, what gives the signal to the motor to extend? Is this a different circuit that the manual switch?

Thanks

Simon

Carefully drive along side a semi that 's pulling a trailer that you can see a reflection of your vehicle in.

Fantastic! I always wondered the best/safest way of doing this. LOL (not everyone has "Danger" in their names)

I just recently drove from NC to FL and back, and when the sun was not overhead I could see my shadow and for the first time I could see if the spoiler was up or down. It was up most of the way

Well, I actually don't know if my spoiler goes up either. Time to put the camera facing rear.
(What I'd like is to remove the oem retractable spoiler and put an aftermarket spoiler - some low profile that does not destroy the design intent of the car)

LLLOOOOLLL!!!
The resourcefulness here is amazing. Problem completely solved.
Step 1 - Use the last suggestion to make sure it goes up
Step 2 - Drive alongside a semi and look for the reflection

Wish I hadn't read this at work. People are staring wondering what the heck I think is so funny. Good thing I didn't have a mouthful of coffee...

I'm only 5'11" and I can see mine whhile driving if I push myself upward in my seat and glance quickly over my shoulder. It's not that big of a deal...I just use an empty stretch of straight road.

I;m not advocating this method; mearily suggesting that it's possible.

Should we call an Authorized Porsche dealer if our spoiler stays up for more than 4 hours???

not silly at all.
the two relays are activated by the cluster .
however, the cluster detects the position of the spoiler via a small switch located on the spoiler rail.
you will have to remove the mechanism cover to get to it.

this is the diagram just in case (for 2000-2004 cars)

by the way, if one wants, he can use the wires connected to the switch to activate a LED to show the status of the spoiler.
gray/green and gray/brown.

Your spoiler warning light (dash cluster) should come on if it is not operating correctly. I am unsure of the exact inputs and reliability for the light but they would likely be things like speed signal and the spoiler track micro switch state....

...drop two special purple pills into a full tank of gas and your spoiler should stay up all week end

Special Purple Pills ?? That is Nexium for acid reflux. Will it stop oil from dripping out of the RMS ?
