I too replaced my three external tensioners due to "classic tensioner start-up noise"
And, I too still have the noise. While I could certainly live with the noise, it sounds so violent and destructive for that moment at start-up, I just can't believe there aren't serious consequences by ignoring the problem.

Since the noise seems to be oil pressure related, as it only occurs on cold start-ups where the oil or oil pressure has had time to drain down, it would seem that the cause would have to be limited to only those parts that would be affected by oil pressure. If we have replace the tensioners, does that mean our new tensioners are defective? Or, what other parts could be causing the noise as they would be affected by oil pressure.

I keep reading about tensioner paddles and wear pads. But would those parts behave differently with the drop in oil pressure as do the tensioners?
