To my mind, the two mods that make a car a lot less driveable on the street are cams and aluminum flywheels. When you consider how much power you can make with intake and exhaust on these factory-strangled cars without ruining the driveability, I don't see why anybody would bother to mess with the cams, unless it was exclusively a track car.

But then, I'm old, and I've already done the cams and light flywheel on other cars. :-)

A long time ago when street racing was my main source of income my favorite phrase to hear was a competitor bragging about the big cam he had just installed in his car.

Adding 400cc to my Box S engine effectively made the original cams"smaller" & I don't regret that at all as HP doesn't fall off til 6900 rpm with the 3.6L

Same here, I made a lot of gas money in college street racing. The only thing I could do to make the car a bit more drivable with a 302deg cam and an 8 lb flywheel ( among many, many other mods ) was install a 4.10:1 LSD diff...and even then, city driving was a headache....
