Any side effects

They seem very expensive for the small gain in power they offer.

at high RPMs, not to mention the low RPM torque loss!

So no one has installed them i suppose?
Personally i think the gain is good from a NA engine. The gain could be more with further set up such as ipd plenum, 74mm throttle body, ecu tune, headers bypass cat, short shifter and lightweight flywheel, no?

Try it and let us know how it works out for you. Before and after dyno charts would be great.

Personally I think more aggressive cam profiles would be pretty far down the mods list in terms of torque gain/$. I would probably put in a 3.6L with matched and tuned intake and exhaust, 6spd trans with short 4th & 5th gears, motorsport LSD and forget the rest.

Or talk to Jake Raby and find out how to get an extra 100HP from a NA engine.

flat6innovations.com => Jake.

Jake has a shop with multiple dynos and has done a great deal of testing to figure out what gives both dyno numbers and driveability. He isn't cheap but if you want NA HP and a engine with lots of upgraded parts ....

To my mind, the two mods that make a car a lot less driveable on the street are cams and aluminum flywheels. When you consider how much power you can make with intake and exhaust on these factory-strangled cars without ruining the driveability, I don't see why anybody would bother to mess with the cams, unless it was exclusively a track car.

But then, I'm old, and I've already done the cams and light flywheel on other cars. :-)

One of the more intelligent things I have heard in a long time on this forum.

The cams are already fairly aggressive since the 3.4 I have makes its peak power at around 6600 rpm

I have installed cams in other engines, and I really do enjoy the lumpy idle. They are generally good for about a 12-15 peak hp increase, and something like 20+ where the power usually falls off. Especially with good headers and a free flowing intake.

My issue is $$$. Spending almost $3000 on cams is a bit too much for me. That, and considering a proper full exhaust is about $4000, and with the other mods youre considering brings you up to about $10000 easily. Even more if youre paying someone to do the work for you.

Considering that its a relatively low increase in power vs $$$, id pull the engine down, lower the compression, and turbo it. Almost the same money, but you'll add about 150hp.

Most of us turbo guys know this already, but NA sucks.

But if you really are dead set on going NA, and money is no object, these engines really do have an excellent foundation for a high hp NA motor....

A long time ago when street racing was my main source of income my favorite phrase to hear was a competitor bragging about the big cam he had just installed in his car.

Adding 400cc to my Box S engine effectively made the original cams"smaller" & I don't regret that at all as HP doesn't fall off til 6900 rpm with the 3.6L

Same here, I made a lot of gas money in college street racing. The only thing I could do to make the car a bit more drivable with a 302deg cam and an 8 lb flywheel ( among many, many other mods ) was install a 4.10:1 LSD diff...and even then, city driving was a headache....

i have been onto their site but shipping cams over here is just a lot cheaper than to ship a complete upgraded engine needless to say that the engine upgrades at F6I are nearly equivalent with what is acheived from a 3.2 with headers, bypass decats, ECU tune and air intake along with exhaust, and its a lot more fun to do it yourself....

Today our engines easily make 40HP more than factory without the need for ECU work, headers or other aftermarket enhancements. Unline "tuners" we gain our power from the internals and thats how you address the inadequacies of the engine best. We don't "tune" engines without first enhancing the strength of the internals.

I have several engines in UAE, its one of the simpler places that we have shipped engines. Its a hell of a lot easier to ship there than Russia!

I wouldnt know how it is to ship to russia really, maybe because of the language? I am pretty interested to take your advices to increase my engine potential.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but with the money we are talking here why not look at installing a 996 engine?
