bad idle following battery disconnect/reconnect

I replaced my steering lock mechanism, as the old one went bad.
Upon reconnecting the battery it did not want to idle smooth. It was up and down, close to killing with out keeping on the pedal some.

Will this straighten out? Is it a normal occurrence ? I've looked thru many threads on this procedure and thru my manual but don't see much. Seems before doing this I had seen someone say that the a brain had to re set or re-learn for a while. Is this true?
Everything else that was bad is now fine, no more sticky key , electronic locks working now,

Anything I should check or test.
