I'm planning on doing something similar and need to figure out what size velocity stack to get.

Hmmm yes went down that road.....if you are after the biggest area it will end up being elliptical, unless you open or remove the side vent tunnel. This biggest area, as I am close to, may not be optimal....so you may get away with a nice round spun velocity stack and have good flow characteristics.....but then there is the problem of adapting the round to the elliptical air box opening
