Dim Headlights and Turn signal problems

Hey guys and gals

Have a couple of problems that have creeped up on my 03.

First is the headlights. The headlights come on but are very dim. The high beams work correctly if you pull back on the stalk but when you lock them forward they will not come on. Fog lights work as well.

I have removed housing and switched bulbs around without any luck. I am leaning toward the ignition switch but that's just a guess.

Second is turn signals. This problem came up much later than headlights.
Basically it wont go back to the home position on a turn. I have to manually switch it back not a big deal but annoying at times.

Any thoughts or experiences would be great

Thanks

Will

I just had a problem with the turn signals, when signalling to the left, the stalk would hold but it would not cancel and go back to the center position. When signalling to the right, it will not even hold.

Turns out some black plastic piece broke internally - fell out when the stalk was taken out.

I've got a new set of control stalk put in, frankly, the brand new one still feels not so solid...

Can I suggest you check the light electrical socket in the fender.
There is a slider on the mount of the electrical connector that sometimes works loose.
If loose, it may not be making a good solid connection..
It could be you are not getting a sure fit when sliding the light into the fender.
Simple check to do..

The light housing not "seating" properly is what caused me some problems too. Dim lights were the sign. Another was I had recently removed the light for one thing or another and did NOT get the connector (at the back of the headlight housing) to properly seat in all the way.

The fix for me was to slightly bend the retaining bracket, now the light housing makes solid contact and I have normal lights again.

Good Luck and may your future be "brighter" than the past!

My low beam lights just had this problem with the high beams working if you pull the stalk lever. Turned out it was the light switch that had gone bad. It's a $150 part and fairly easy to replace.
