There is also the salaries and pensions for the massive federal work force. Many of these are working in those "Great Society" programs that have proven to be ineffectual, i.e., Dept of Energy, Dept of Ed. etc. All of these were funded with the money from SocSec. How about we dissolve them and put the Billions back into the SocSec fund which would have been more than solvent if it had been left alone? Would that do for a good start? Or have those "programs" become sacred cows?
