Breaking News.......They ALL Lie !!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfu1_Scgyow The new congress is going to have to EARN the trust of fiscal conservatives this time and show that their primary concern is for their constituants and the future well being of the country. They will only be able to earn this trust through their ACTIONS, not just lip service. I am personally too jaded to believe they will do it, we'll see. P.S. TERM LIMITS |
actually, if they promised 100B on a fiscal year and they can only control how much is spent on half of that fiscal year due to how the timing and previous congress worked and they cut 50B or close to... that seems like they are keeping their promise.
in fact it shows they actually made a difference while the previous group of buffoons ****************ed up. |
$50 billion? not bad. Only another $950 billion to go. There going to have to chase down a lot of welfare moms to come up with that a trillion in loose change.
That $14 trillion of national debt will be gone in no time at $50 billion a year....just another 70 years...if course we balance all future budgets...right! :D 1. Democrats can not be counted on. 2. Republicans can not be trusted. 3. Democrats make doing business difficult. 4. Republicans make doing business dangerous. 5. Neither has the sligthest idea what to do. |

as far as who knows what they are doing... i doubt anyone does we haven't been in this situation in our lifetimes. |
It's a start for sure...I hope we get it done before the Fed's file for bankruptcy...then we all will lose. :(

Undoing the spending binge of the last two years will take some doing.
Lets give them a few weeks to see how they do. :) |

Ten years later people will say, "Gee we're bankrupt and in default? What about those $500 billlion in spending cuts over the last decade?" "ummm that's how much the deficit went up by just this year" "oh...well that sucks..." A real start would involve a detailed plan on how the biggest parts of the boulder will be dismantled (social security, medicare, defense) or shifted to private sholulders. That's the crucial part. We've seen NOTHING of the sort. Until that occurs we only have phoney starts. Time for people to start governing like one termers. It's really that simple every Congress person should take a one term pledge. That will part the the pretenders from the believers in a snap of the fingers. We've all seen this "this time we're serious" movie a dozen times. Show me the money not the pocket lint. |
Pl,
You are predictable. Give them a month or two. Understand that they have ONE house of Congress. Then, sound off. I may be right there with you but I am willing to give them a few turns before writing them off. Same as I did for Bama. A few months. |

as for defense, you name it as if it belongs in that category with SS or MC keep in mind the defense budget IS a constitutionally solid institution whereas the other two are not. |
There is also the salaries and pensions for the massive federal work force. Many of these are working in those "Great Society" programs that have proven to be ineffectual, i.e., Dept of Energy, Dept of Ed. etc. All of these were funded with the money from SocSec. How about we dissolve them and put the Billions back into the SocSec fund which would have been more than solvent if it had been left alone? Would that do for a good start? Or have those "programs" become sacred cows?

ITs a big hole to climb out of

YOU MUST GET EATEN ALIVE. It's like storming the beach at Normandy. They have to let the entrenched politicians know that there will be second wave right behind the first when the next election rolls around. And a third and a fourth. Just imagine if the Americans had landed on Omaha Beach with slingshots and offering up cupcakes? This is just the same. Sounds drastic but it really has come to this. The idea that a corrupted Republican party and a corrupted Democrat party is going to allow the other to crack open cuts into entitlements and defense and not use it against the other is universally rejected. This means that reform from within, via 'baby steps' is GUARANTEED to fail. Simple poltical physics. No need to wait 'a few months'. If these Tea Party guys were even afraid to lay out specific cuts or privatization then you can be CERTAIN that they will cave at the first sign of ressistance when the red meat in these deficits comes up for a vote. These guys all want to be re-elected, Democrat and Republican alike. A house on a mud foundation falls every time. Making tough choices, actually I mean INSANELY tough choices at this stage, and running for re-election are completely incongruent. Put your hope behind the guy who has made the one term pledge not the guy who gives the Sunday Morning politics show the usual Washington two step "yes we mean it this time" answer. |
PL-
You go first. What would you like us to do: storm the WH? |

A lot would be learned by asking your local Represenative or Senator if he would be willing to sign a one term pledge to address entitlement and defense cuts. If he balks you know he full of b.s. and hasn't the backbone required by the current state of affairs. |
As much as I am for term limits, I also live in the real world. That is not going to happen, at least not in the near future.
That said, the next budget IS going to happen. I am watching to see who does what, to whom. |
it will happen if people stop voting twice for the same politician. I've never done it and intend to keep that going. Give them an inch and they will take you for a marathon. The prize of being re-elected is always sweeter to a politician than doing something painfull but sober. Until that day, I know better than to believe empty promises from the Johny Come Latelys that won't even spell out a list of spending cuts even AFTER they've been elected.

there are two categories of federal expense - mandatory and discretionary. the military falls under discretionary which means the gov't decides each year how much of the budget to allocate to it. SS and MC are mandatory expenses, meaning the amount that has to be budgeted is fixed by law. you want to cut non-military spending? great, already done for 2011. now let's lower military spending which went up from $844b in '10 to $895b for '11. |
I concur
