I think its time to change the rotors...
The pads still had a some wear left in them but the rotors have some big cracks after yesterday at the track.
The tight and techical Streets of Willow track is perfectly suited for the 986 and I was probably a bit too hard on the brakes in the process of leaving a GT-R and a Mustang GT500KR behind me. Also probably overdrove the brakes during the coaching sessions with an ex-Indy Car driver.
Cracks like this are the Achilles Heel of any drilled rotor, especially on a car that sees a lot of track days, but I like the feel and additional cooling that a drilled rotor provides.
Of course, I knew this was coming so I had a set of new rotors and pads in the garage. Spent a couple of hours this afternoon doing the change out and all is well.

Slotted rotors didn't seem to have the same feel as the drilled rotors either.

Not unusual to have cracks around the holes but the one which goes all the way is scary!

Yep, got your money's worth out of those.
I'm old school and just run Plain Jane Zimmerman rotors. I never saw a track-duty cross-drilled rotor that didn't have cracks. Annoying.

You still have one more side that isn't cracked. At least another track day...or who was that guy selling used clutch parts on here. Maybe he would be interested in them!

How did you get that home? So I shouldn't try to learn to balance the car on exits with some left foot or I will end up this??
During my limited track time (way out of it right now), I have tried to reduce braking duration and be a little harder on them. This seems to keep them cooler.
Are you running larger brake cooling ducts?

The rotors are by Cquence. I just want to be clear that I don't think that this is a materials or manufacturing related issue, ALL drilled rotors that use the swiss cheese drill pattern will ultimately crack out regardless of brand. This is why most track guys run solid or slotted disks. Utlimately, I blame myself because I really should have changed them out 1 or 2 track days earlier. Lesson learned.
They drove fine in this condition - I was actually really surprised to see that the crack was this extensive.
Yes, I am running the large GT-3 cooling ducts.

Scott Atchison from Bakersfield. He drove Indycars back in the late 80's. Very nice guy and very smart.
