Just wanted to say I installed the Ben/ UniWerks make it easy shift bundle- solid rifle bolt shifting and it totally eliminated side to side play! Very easy install for a first timer under the center console and A+ customer service.

Are you planning on making aluminum shifter cable adapter similar to agency part or evoms?

Thanks for your feedback !

Not for now, I'm trying to finish the 996 plenum, I'm several month late on those... and then I have a lot of 928 parts in the box that I really what to put on the market

I installed a short shifter for a customer today


And finally took the time to take good picture to write proper instructions...! Yep, 5 years after ^^

Has anyone compared this shifter with the OEM 997 unit? Thinking of putting one of these into a cheap 986/996 console and selling my 997 console, but not sure if it's worthwhile?

Plenty of people have fitted it to 987/997 yes

The 9X7 shifter is a bit shorter than the 9X6 one, but still cushioned, and when it's worn, you have no other choice than to replace it.

If the one you have is brand new, you can give it a try, then fit one of mine later if you want something more precise !

Thanks for the reply. I already have the 997 unit installed in the car (and have sold my original one). Not unhappy with the 997 shifter in any way, just saw yours and was interested if it was worth finding a 9x6 shifter to modify and having to take apart the center console again. How much shorter is the throw compared to 997?

997 is 15% shorter, short shifter is 35% than 9X6 shifter.

Personally, I have had both one of these short shifters and the 997 shifter in my car. I like the precision of these, but I didn't not like the increased effort and felt that it was actually a bit too short for my tastes. I found myself taking more time to shift as I really think to make sure I was going into the right gear. The very noticeable increased effort also tweaked the torn rotator cuff in my shoulder when I pulled the shifter over into reverse.

To me, the reduction in throw from the 997 and slight increase of effort was the "Goldilocks" shifter for me. No, it isn't as precise as the aftermarket shifters, but it just felt "right", if that makes sense. I talked with a race driver friend of mine who uses the the 997 Cup car shifters (same geometry as the regular 997 shifter, but has a different attachement to the lever) in his Boxster endurance racers and 996 Cup Cars that he drives. He also felt that the aftermarket shifters were a bit too short for his preference. That said other drivers swear by the short shifters. Sooo, in the end it is personal preference.

I think the perfect shifter for me would have the geometry of the 997 shifter, with bearings to take out the slight bit of slop.

Thanks for the feedback!

I know Phenix Engineering makes direct replacement billet bushings for the 997 console, but I have no idea how much of a source of slop the stock bushings are compared to the side lever mechanism (i.e. if the upgraded bushings will reduce slop if your existing ones aren't already worn out to begin with).

It really depends on how comfortable you are working on your car.
It takes me 45minutes because I've fitted many.
On average that's a 2hours job


By the way, I haven't posted much (at all...) lately, but I have to announce that in a few weeks I will no longer work for Porsche and I'll work on the website and my parts full time !

And to start 2021, I'll have a new shifter available !
No more modifying cheap ones, this one is entirely made up to my specs and design, though it is largely based on what already exists, no need to reinvent the wheel here

Even higher quality, revised geometry, it won't have a throw as short as before to accomodate daily driving our aging gearboxes and suit better to the Boxster (a roadster) spirit !

And... for those who want, ditch the Porsche gear knob and select any 12mm compatible gear knob on the market !
Weighed, carbon fiber, aluminum, ball, wood, anything !

Here you have old style on the left, and new one on the right :




And I want your opinion !
Stay bare aluminum ? Or anodized black ?

I tested it last saturday, and will test it again on another car (the first one had a bad gearbox...) next week !

Here is some photos I took !





I'm really satisfied with my calculations, the lever ratio is spot on to me !

Once the last test is done, I'll order the production !

It looks great! Can you make any that will accept the factory shift knob, or an insert to allow use of the factory knob? Asking for a friend....
