Washers ?
Why would you need to put washers under ??
Mine now feels like it is notched steel when I shift |
The way it shortens the shift is the bottom part of the shifter is longer. Closer to scraping the area under it. If you raise it you get more clearance. That is also why they tell you to remove the green peice.
|
yes, the pivot point is raised, and the bottom part of the lever is longer, and might hit the green piece.
So, I said that I would do another round of shifter this summer, but I'm still locked with paypal... and they are a bit slow when it comes to solve problems ... so I'm sorry, for now we all have to wait :/ Ben |
Any chance you have an extra one for sale or will be doing another run soon? If so please PM me.
|
I'll send you a PM DMage :)
I should start a new round soon, who's in ? Ben |
Green thing ????
Mine is binding a bit too much, I took off my console today and I cannot find the green thing you are supposed to remove ??
Anyone got a pic or suggestions ?? Thanks Dwight |

Not there now
That was never there in my car, must be something else ???
|
The shifter feels hard the first weeks, you will feel the gear engaging.
To be sure, you can disconnect de cables and see if the problem is still there. Ben |

I loved my miata gearbox too !
I need you to PM me your informations (Name, adress, phone, and e-mail) so I can put you on my list. I think most of the people that wanted one in the last month are in vacation, so I might have to wait for them if I can't find enough people :/ Ben |
I think I solved my problem
I put some play back into the end bearings...not much just a tiny amount. I then used three 1/4 inch washers on the front two studs and 1 washer each on the back two studs of the mounting bolts for the shifter. This gave a slightly front up a tiny bit and moved the cables a bit further away from the "hump"
I took her out tonight and the shifting was much better than before |
Hey Ben,
I installed the shifter this week... WOW! what an improvement :) thanks very much Don |
Hi :)
Glad you like it ! Does it feel better Dwight ? after a while you should get used to the feeling and not feel the "steps" much. Ben |
Yes
Much better, just had it too tight I think
|
Good to hear !
Ben |

|

Ben |
How does this looks like ?
http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2015/...3058379204.jpg It's just a prototype, but I can tell you that it will fit really nice, especially with the short shifter underneath ! |
I like the look of that
|
I do too ! It should look really good in polished stainless steel !

For now, I use my car as a model, so I did a 5speed pattern first, but if someone with a 6 speed and want me to look a it :)
|
The part looks nice, but not a fan of the bare stick look.
|
I just removed the knob so you can see better, you should be able to use any shift knob after ;)
|
I meant the bare shaft. I prefer a boot...just my personal preference. ;)
|
Oh ok, sorry I didn't get it ^^
|
How are you going to attach it? Looks great :)
|
I haven't decided yet, I need to work on it ;)
|
This looks really nice. Would you be able to prototype one for a 6 speed? I would be very interested if this works well.

Ben - I'm new to 986forum (but have had my boxster for about 4.5 years) - are you still doing another run of the short shifters? or am I too late?
|
Hi !
For now I'm doing one for the 5 speed, it's easier and easier for me since I have a 5 speed. Once I'm done I'll try for the 6 speed :) Redbox, I would like to, but I even I count you on, I have too few people to start a new round :/ I'm too short on money to bet and start a round of ten shifter without having most of them pre-sold :/ I'm sorry. Ben. |

Yep, more than twice the price !
Their "yoke" looks really good! But I found that most of the play was not comming from that part. I have mine for more than a year now, still strong ! Just check the tightness from time to time ;) Thanks for your feedback! Ben. |
Ben,
Please keep me in mind if you need anyone in order get another round going in production. thanks |
