Everything is at the machine shop, but I had a problem with some parts, which means that now I have twice the parts to modify to accomodate de ball bearings ... but don't worry, it won't change anything for you :)

Who else had problems getting the long shaft in and the side bushing at the same time....or did I miss something.....it was very very tight

Mine was tight also. Too igh to be smooth.

Was it a drag or the bearings didn't fit at all in the buckets ?
Everyone that was in the first round of shifters, if the bearings don't seem to fit, don't force them inside ! Tell me, I'll fix it (I think I know why but I'm waiting to get Dwight's shifter back).

Those in thz second round, don't worry, they fit (when you'll open the package you'll see them already assembled :) )

My original question was not about the shifter ends fitting into the buckets, but getting the new shifter into the plastic OEM assembly after removing the original. You insert the long end in first and the the side pin into the bushing....it is very very tight....or an I missing something ??

Oh, I have to remember !
The easiest way is to do it with the whole assembly out of the car.
The way I did, is that I held the shifter in place, with the side pin in the lever, and slid the two buckets through the assembly and over the bearings, then put the clips.
Then finish by tightening the set screw gently (there is no need to use a lot of force here !), and tighten the locking nuts.

The buckets should be tight inside the assembly so there is no play. If they are too tight, a little bit of 400 grit sand paper should clear it :)

It should work by doing so.

I don't see any way possible to get the actual shifter into the cradle with the buckets already installed unless you cut the bearing bosses.....of course than it would be worthless and ruined.

I am talking about the actual installation of the shifter without the buckets into the plastic original cradle...I had to really lean on mine to get it in....was actually worried I might break or destroy the cradle. My buckets were way undersized so I never completed the installation..Ben has me a new unit on the way...A very professional Guy....Thanks Ben

well If I remember well it takes some finesse to get it in, but it should go in.
If you want you can remove the first bearing, it might help a little :)

I received your shifter ! and fixed it :)
first, don't use grease, it's already lubricated were it needs it!
then I put the buckets in my drill, and ground them with 150grit sand paper, then 500 and 1200.
I almost lost a finger, but now the bearings fit inside :)

Good to know about the grease, the only instructions I had said to grease the buckets and bearings.

I greased the hell out of everything out of instinct. I figured it couldn't hurt.

I won't hurt at first, but then the grease will keep the dust and look dirty :/

It's hiding under the shift boot. Will it really collect much dust? How is it going to get under there? Osmosis?

from the ventilation. It's hiding, but still. mine was dirty when I took it out !

I could never believe how much better the shift felt after installation . My replacement shifter fit like a glove and is so much more definite now.

I do have one question while I was quite careful with the cable placement and getting it back where is is supposed to be, second gear feels like it could be a bit further or it should move slightly more to engage better ??

It does not slip or try to slip out of gear....just feels like it not quite there....anyone else have this same situation ?

my biggest help was to take good pictured with my phone for reference, also I removed the cradle or shifter assembly completely( so I could move it tot he bench...be careful removing the old bushings with a utility knife

I put the cables in the exact same place where they were, and I don't feel that. did you remove the green piece in the bottom of the assembly ? it can interfere with the cables.

maybe try to move the cable a little be more inside the threaded receiver (I don't know how to call it ?).


The most "difficult" part for me was to break to old bushings out, I was a little afraid, but after that, should be easy :)

I did not remove the green piece....drove it quite a bit today and all gears are engaging well and staying where they should....if it's working leave it alone :)

Mine installed last weekend and love it as well. There's still some play in mine, but I think that's from the left plastic thing that's left from the original shifter for the side by side play. Any way to tighten this up?

Yes there will always be some play in the rest on the assembly/cables/gearbox.
I've been told that there is a screw you can tighten in the gearbox but I don't know exactly !

You will need to remove the green peice. The cable ends will rub. You can also pur washers under the shifter console about 1/8 inch before you run out of stud to bolt it down.

Is there another run of these coming up or do you have any extra in stock now? Interested in picking up one of these. Have some slop in my shifter now and figure when I take the console apart to replace the connectors that probably have play in them would like to just get it all done and install the short shifter too.
