Another suggestion, the wire to power these should be a pigtail with a connector on the end or the frame should have a connector that the power wires plug into. I'm thinking if you have to remove the windscreen for any reason it would be nice to just pull apart a connector and be done. Any ideas where we would tap into for power to light these ? Love what you have designed so far !

Well spotted. You are right and the only way I think it would work is by having a 'flat' style micro connector so it fits under the roll-bar interior trim (what is the name of that trim btw, mine are in leather... snaps onto the roll-bar, do these have a name?)
Something like on the pic below:
RE Tapping (hmmm still debatable). I was thinking getting the 12VDC from the clam shell brake light (nearest, easy to reach/snake too). I can provide a loom of about 2m long with the kit.
Wonder what our good friend Charles (member Particlewave) thinks about this idea. He is an Electrical Engineer by trade, and has a Porsche car just like ours. You think he'd be willing to help us out on this one?!

There is a connector for the rear defroster in that area.

I think this would be easiest for most.
Me? I'd run it down to the "ashtray" light so that it comes on automatically with the headlights/interior lights

I hate to go against the grain, but my preference is the crest only. Simple and sweet!

Charles, thanks bro. Never thought about that ashtray 12v. Nice one man and exactly what I wanted to achieve (edge panel lights up when parking light/headlamps are turned on). That's how the clam's brake light came to mind.
Also like other's idea of having it switched on the defrost plug, if that's all feasible. Are you able to confirm that?
Decision decision....
A question I had for you is... let's say I want my edge panel to be 50% brightness when lights are ON and full 100% brightness when I hit the brakes. Anything you could design quickly... for those of us going "red" lol
(not sure if I understand how that clam's brake light intensity thingy is designed)

I don't know what LEDs you're using, but if you're using color shift LEDs, here is what I'd like to see.
1. Powered on with the lights (using the ashtray light, or rear parking lights or what ever.
2. Have the ability to turn it off if I'd like to (maybe with a button in one of the blanks on the dash, or a switch in the center console)
3. Have the lighting change to Red when the brakes are applied (or a brighter red if you're already using red).
I think this could be really sweet.
BTW, this is my design choice:
Simple and still lets you see through the wind blocker.
I'm digging this thread.

Tony - top quality mate. Got to admit those are all great ideas! But, if you ask me, and as JayG already pointed out, we can't move too far away from the initial idea of having this edge panel designed with an emphasis on simplicity. We've getting way too close to our max/ceiling of $7,500 per unit :/
Regardless, I'll need to consult with dearest resident, and associate Electrical Engineer (Charles) on this and get back to you. I know that he is already working onto a piggy back (plug & play) module that will trigger the dual-intensity brake light thingy for us (Top man eh!)
