I'll admit, I got this exhaust system purely for looks. It's a cheap enough way to get rid of what my wife not-so-lovingly refers to as the car's butt-hole. I took mine to an exhaust shop and had it welded in rather than use clamps, because I've got bad history with the clamps.
It's a bunch louder now. Jury is still out on if I like it or not but I'm promising to give until at least the next oil change to pass judgement. I *think* I like it, but I need more miles under varying conditions, and I understand it takes some miles to break them in properly. One thing I did notice is they appear to ship with a coating that, once heated, will flake off in a fine white powder. It wipes right off and doesn't alarm me, just thought I'd mention. A picture of the installed exhaust: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1433606254.jpg To my eye, this is the sort of exhaust tips the car should have shipped with originally. |
Yes, give it some time, the sound will improve. Be careful about wiping anything off of your paint! The exhaust will shed fiberglass for a while. Wiping it off dry will cause scratches:eek: I used a hose to wash it a way.

RE drone; not sure if this relevant but did the aftermarket exhaust swap also and wrapped the pipes from mufflers up to the front cats (asbestos wraps? dunno the name of that stuff). It cancelled all of the drone I was getting in the mid revs. Sounds fab now... in and out of car
Later wrapped the headers also. Keeps the bay cooler :) Wroom wroom in tunnels here also Bruce loll big time (5~6k rpm and all man) |

Curious on what I should do now that the new exhaust is on. Will the EMC (computer) re-calibrate itself? Do I need to unplug the battery and let it all reset? Something else? Nothing?
|
Nothing, except take it for a nice, long, spirited drive. It will learn:cool:

I had to cut the one pipe to make it fit, but holy **************** the sound is good :D
|
Glad you got it on! Drone? Wait until you get some miles on it, it only gets better:cool: Remember, do not brush off the white fiberglass that you will see on the bumper. Rinse with water! Have a great weekend:cheers:

Outstanding video Martin! Thanks for doing and posting. Sounds great:cheers:

Question…I bought a slightly used Top Speed type exhaust with no hardware. Will the old mounting bolts to the trans work?
Should I replace the clamps that go from the U pipes to the cats with easy clamps or just use the old ones? Thanks! |
If you want to replace clamps (I'd recommend) I have a set for sale that I never installed before selling the car. These sleeves were recommended earlier in this post to cure exhaust leaking. http://986forum.com/forums/324664-post15.html
