Is anyone running these mufflers on an older 986 that doesn't have secondary cats?

So if you remove those you will have NO cats at all and that could be a problem because the O2 sensors will have to go elsewhere and you will have the engine light on and will not pass emissions. |

Ok I just read my last post again, I'm not sure if I was clear. My question, is anyone running the top speed or similar mufflers on a 98 model year Boxster. Because on this year the car only has one set of cats. So I wouldn't think I need the test pipes to get rid of the drone caused by the second set of cats on later model year cars. The set up on this model year is header, cat, pipe and muffler. Thanks in advance :)

Is the reducer pipe that attaches to the test pipe supposed to just "butt up" against the u-pipe with the original double wide clamp just holding the to pipes together? I'm having a hell of a time getting that connection to work. It seems I will have to cut off an inch or so on both sides to make it work. Something is going on. Help please!

Be sure to drive the upstream end of the cat delete pipe reducer all the way as it will likely need to be hammered into place. you should not have to cut it |
You need to "fiddle" with the whole assembly. Keep your connections loose until everything is in place. Definitely NO cutting required.

Yes, that will help, good luck!

Son of a $%&*!, that system just won't fit together neatly, having to resort to buying adapter pipes to get it better. Left side works out fine, right side no chance. Looosen, tighten, curse, pray, nothing is working, C4 is next. Just won't work, the muffler Manza muffler isn't precisely made, so I see some problems in how it is not lining up well with the test pipes, but a few more hours and it should be good.

Anyone have a suggestion on putting this thing together? I think I am going to take it all apart and work backwards, from Muffler to primary cats. This thing just shouldn't be that diffcult, should it? I am no expert mechanic but I'm also no newb with turning a wrench, so I am getting a little perplexed on what in the H E double hockey sticks is going on. I am open to suggestions, PLEASE!

I am not a master mechanic either and I got a little frustrated too when installing mine. My best advice is take your time and keep everything loose, including the muffler. You have the cat delete pipes and the TS muffler, correct? If so, it will all fit. One question, on your cat bypass pipes, you don't have two identical ones do you? I seem to remember a while back, someone got shipped two of the same pipes, not a left and right. Double check that.

Yes I have those items and no the test pipes are a left and a right one. I'm going to take another whack at it tomorrow. Thanks Bruce I will continue to fight on. I know it must go together, just going to have to give it another shot.

Victory Bruce, but it did not fit as ordered. Ended up cutting 2 1/2" from left side test pipe and 3 3/8" from right side test pipe. Fit perfect now. Sound is really great, even at low rpm it sounds fantastic. I have heard that many say the sound only improves, well I can't imagine it sounding any better than it does now, but I'll welcome any additional improvements. Actually the sound is great at all rpm ranges and it has a nice burble sound when backing off the go-go pedal. I couldn't be happier and knowing I don't have to be upside down under the car for a while makes my neck happier too.

Woo Hoo! Glad you got it in! Puzzled as to why it didn't fit, but the end result is all that matters. It will blow fiberglass insulation for a while. You will see it on the rear bumper. Don't brush it off! Doing so will scratch your paint. Just use water to wash it off. Enjoy:cheers:

Thanks Bruce, so glad it is done and yes white shiite is all over the back bumper. Will not brush off, wash it off only, warned my wife "not to help and wipe off".

Wow I am impressed, sounds awesome. However my gas mileage has totally tanked, might because I now floor it everywhere I go, just love that sound.

Again, I am wowed with the total change of sound coming out of my 01. Test pipes and new muffler have totally sexxed up that cars sound. It now has people turning their heads as I pass them on the sidewalk (at 90, lol). Actually seems to have turned this base unit into a beast, at least it sounds that way. Chub at full salute position:eek:
