I've got no relay in position 12
I've tapped from/to pin 86 on the relay

Not sure if pin 86 is same in UK cars as it is in US cars. Maybe that's the issue.

Good point, but I think relays will be standard all over the world so I would have thought that the pin (86) will be the same with the same function, but the wiring of the car is different and thats where the problem is.

Auto-electrics makes me loose the will to live...

Kallie... Just checked mine and it looks nothing like the pic u showed above. I pulled out the relay in location 24 and my fog lights still work so I'm guessing our UK cars must be different. Also, my fuses are not above the relays like shown in the pic either. They are in a separate panel below it.

You don't have a relay in position 24. You probably pulled relay 18. Look at the pictures again. Position 24 is a bridge point, not a relay.
UK cars do not have a fog light relay.

Nice one Particlewave. That would explain it. Going by your picture above, I pulled relay 19.

So, any ideas?

Do you just want the fog lights on at all times when the ignition is on?
If so, pull the headlight switch and connect a jumper wire between the violet wire and the yellow with white stripe wire, which are both on the headlight switch connector (back of switch - do not sever them from the switch, just jump between them).

That will do it on UK cars.

With this mod, will the fogs switch off when the running lights are switched on like the relay hack?

The original mod only shuts them off when the high beams are on.

Unfortunately, this is a function of the fog light relay, so no. They would be on anytime the ignition is on. You could easily achieve this by adding a relay, though. If you get that far and want to add a relay that shuts them off when the parking lights, dipped beams or high beams are on, I can give you instructions.

Ive decided to go this route as the hack isn't as straight forward for us in the UK as it is in the US. Leds and controller for less than €25.

If one uses LED replacement bulbs in the fog lights, will it matter if they are on all the time if you uses dipped or high beam?

I don't see why it would hurt anything.
Just keep in mind that some LED bulbs still get hot, so monitor the lens temp for the first few weeks (just touch the headlight in front of/above the fog light to make sure it's not too hot).

I think it would be just fine.

I got a kit like this and the controller has one wire to go to "headlight/dashlight" so they dim when the headlights are switched on.
Where's the best/easiest place to run this wire to considering one end goes directly to the battery?

Since you'll be going behind the bumper, I'd just tap into the headlight low beam wire in either fender. For the low (dipped) beam, right fender wire is yellow, left fender wire is yellow with black stripe.

Are these the wires running outside the headlight and near the socket for removing the unit?

No. I believe those are related to the front latch, though I've never traced them.

I would go up behind the bumper, into the headlight well and to the headlight connector. Like this:
