Nice one Particlewave. That would explain it. Going by your picture above, I pulled relay 19.
So, any ideas?

Do you just want the fog lights on at all times when the ignition is on?
If so, pull the headlight switch and connect a jumper wire between the violet wire and the yellow with white stripe wire, which are both on the headlight switch connector (back of switch - do not sever them from the switch, just jump between them).
That will do it on UK cars.

You sir, are a genius. Thank you.
With this mod, will the fogs switch off when the running lights are switched on like the relay hack?

Particlewave you are brilliant. The above works for Australian cars as well. So simple. Thank you.

Hi particlewave, I did this today. A straight forward job took 15 minutes at most with great results.
Drove the car for about half an hour and the lens where the fog light is, did not get warm at all. Looks like the led put out very little heat if any.
Thanks again.

The original mod only shuts them off when the high beams are on.
Unfortunately, this is a function of the fog light relay, so no. They would be on anytime the ignition is on. You could easily achieve this by adding a relay, though. If you get that far and want to add a relay that shuts them off when the parking lights, dipped beams or high beams are on, I can give you instructions.

If one uses LED replacement bulbs in the fog lights, will it matter if they are on all the time if you uses dipped or high beam?

I don't see why it would hurt anything.
Just keep in mind that some LED bulbs still get hot, so monitor the lens temp for the first few weeks (just touch the headlight in front of/above the fog light to make sure it's not too hot).
I think it would be just fine.

Many thanks for that. I'll definitely going to try that. I'm away for the next few weeks but will keep you updated.

Since you'll be going behind the bumper, I'd just tap into the headlight low beam wire in either fender. For the low (dipped) beam, right fender wire is yellow, left fender wire is yellow with black stripe.

Are these the wires running outside the headlight and near the socket for removing the unit?

No. I believe those are related to the front latch, though I've never traced them.
I would go up behind the bumper, into the headlight well and to the headlight connector. Like this:

Particlewave have I the right wire in the front passenger side (drivers side US)? I tapped into the yellow/black, connected to the relay for the DRL'S and I have no dims on that side only since. Checked the voltage with the engine running and nothing. I do however have 13V in the top right hand pin as you're looking at it.
Edit.. Blew the headlight dim fuse.
OK.. So which wire do I use now.
As these headlight wires are very awkward to tap into is there any other wire I could use that's easily accessible?

Replace the fuse and try again.
That wire from the DRL controller is signal only, so will not increase the load enough to blow a fuse. Make sure you're using the correct controller wire and that nothing is shorting to ground.
To answer your question, no. The headlight dim circuit has a high rating.

Excuse my ignorance but I'm either really thick
Or I'm not understanding you.
In the diagram above, what wire do I connect the black wire coming from the controller that says "headlight /dashlight"?
The switch live in my headlights is the grey wire with a black strip, when connected to that I have only 50% power in the DRL's. Fml
I have the 2 DRL's wired together ( red to red and black to black) and then run to the controller.
