I've had these in my 986 since January 2014. They're a bit too blue for my taste (5000K), but I can't seem to find any at 4500K, so I live with the color difference.

If really you get bothered by the blue'ish then look into hacking them open and install a filter. Often just adding a 0.3mm thick diffuser (white frost) makes them turn yellow'ish. I'd say at about 3.5k~4k.

Intensity diminish however -15~20%

filters are sourced from photography studio supplies

Any pics of the leds in the fog light housing?

Just picked up my 1999 Boxster and like the idea of the drl's in the fog lights. The Radio shack part numbers provided by OP are no longer listed, but I see autozone has fuse taps. Without pulling my covers off, can someone tell me if it's the simple flat blade fuse taps? Dorman Fuse and Accessories 85606- ReadReviews onDorman #85606

Big rains coming, so Boxster under wraps for a few days. Like to pick up the parts in the meantime. Thanks.

UPDATE:
Found another thread with pics: http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/54796-drl-hack-pics.html

Here's the finished look using LED's with the parking lights on.

Are the LED's to keep the temps down on the lens cover?
Also, has anyone incorporated Auto headlights that would work in conjunction with this hack?
Anything special needed for the LEDs or direct replacement.

JayG 12-20-2016 12:21 PM

The LEDS are lower heat and last longer than H7's

What auto headlights?

In some people's opinion, the LEDs look more modern and may be seen better in the daytime. Also no need to worry about burning out, unless the LED's are poor quality to start with.

There are direct replacement LED's for the fog lights. I got these on amazon based on a recommendation on this forum.

Regarding the DRL Hack. If I remember correctly, I read that someone did the hack and had been using the original Fog Light Bulbs for a long time without causing lense damage. Anyone recall this, or know the post? I tried a search using certain words, but no luck. I was successful doing the hack, but I unplugged the wire from the fuse until I know for sure the OEM bulbs will not cause damage to the lens. My thoughts are Porsche would not put a bulb in place that would burn a lens. Something else I read that was not answered. If doing the hack, what happens if you select the Fog Lights with the switch?

If you pull the fog light switch on, nothing happens since the "fog lights" are already on. Note that the DRL do go off when you switch on the brights.

Your thoughts are incorrect. Every exterior light fixture can and has been burned/melted by stock bulbs. Do not use halogen bulbs as DRL.

I finally changed out the OEM fog light bulb's to the H7 LED's that some are using. I did raise the Fog Lights up 10 turns on the adjustment screws. They look so much better than the OEM's.

Silly question about this, does the hack throw any codes/warning lights etc??

There is supposed to be a hack that will let one use the low beams as DRL's....

There is, its called twisting the light switch to turn your low beams on

It would involve a relay and more wiring.
The Fogs work fine as DRLs
