Electrical tape should last forever as a permanent fix so long as you wipe all the dust and grit before you apply the tape.

I wanted to post the info here since I have done this replacement and its so easy to do. I found the part on ebay for cheap. The end of the piece has two yellow buttons that need to be pressed in to release the piece from its clamp. Press them in and pull out the broken dip stick. Put the new piece in and press the yellow tabs while pushing down on the oil dipstick to seat it.

For those of you who are repairing your hose, make sure you are not changing the length of the hose as that will affect the measurement of the dipstick.

I used 1/4 in fuel line, twice. One day I will replace that tube (or at this point, all 3 of them), right after I do a whole bunch of other stuff.
