WTB: 2000-2003 Boxster S, Low miles and well-kept

I totalled my Miata a few weeks ago. In search of a replacement I found that the older Boxsters cost in the same ballpark... so, I'm looking.

I'm still waiting on the other guy's insurance to offer me the right amount for my totalled car, that should be this week.

For once in forever, I'm considering an automatic, so it can be either.
I've found a bunch of ones that meet my criteria for in the $10k ballpark with between 60k and 85k miles. I've learned that people on forums like this usually love their cars and maintain them well.

Tell me what you have. Location only matters a little. It is worthwhile for me to fly and drive the car home... but east coast cars might be a tough sell with the travel time needed.

Thanks all!

Make sure you understand WHY they are in the same ballpark...

Yes, I've done my research... or, at least, I believe I have. I know the repair costs are higher, the IMS/RMS failure is scary and a few other concerns. I've also heard they can be as reliable as my Miata when maintained properly.

Anything else I should know?

$10k is going to get you a Boxster S that needs work. Spend more to get a enthusiast owned and maintained S or go for a base Boxster at 10k for the same. Don't forget to get PPI. If you need to get a car caught up on maintenance it's easy to spend 50% of the purchase price. These were $40 to $60k cars new and the parts still reflect this. Good luck.

I'd be glad to take a look. I've almost completely decided to go with an S model though. For the right car, a base model could be in the cards.

I had closed a deal on a 2002 Boxster S with less than 50k miles on it. It was perfect. The PPI was scheduled for today... but the husband and wife apparently don't talk and the hubby worked a deal with someone else while she had the deal with me. Neither one knew the other had sold it. I had airfare booked and ready to go when I get the call telling me that someone showed up with a dolly saying they had already bought the car. I was SOOOO bummed. It had every feature I wanted and not a scratch on it.
