Shifter placement. Longer cables?

I'm wondering if anyone else would prefer having the shifter further forward? I'm considering finding a pair of longer cables to give it a try. Looking at photos it seems like it is as far forward as possible, but once you remove the centre console parts it seems more tempting. I'ts been years since I drowe the car, so I would like your opinions before I commit.

There isn't much room to move it forward on the console. It's secured to the central tunnel by 4 hard mounted studs that fit through the shifter assembly base, so you would have to cut those studs out and weld new ones in. You are right though, there isn't much stretch length in those cable, maybe a cm or 2 at the most.

Raising the assembly is another story though. I just recently raised it by 4 cm and the cables reached no problem - just had to do a bit or rerouting through the clips back by the handbrake to get the slack.

Thanks, I was thinking I could move it forward and raise it at the same time. I will cut the studs or drill holes and weld a nut on the bottom of the tunnel.

What I would do then is remove the 4 nuts, remove all the retaining clips, and see if you can get it in the position you want with the stock cables.

If it won't reach, you can remove the intake plenum and crossover tube and run the cables under those and you will get a ton of slack.

The Numeric Racing cables seem to have a lot more adjustment than the stock cables. It might be enough for your needs.

Are the Numeric cables objectively better?
