Tow Hook Specs?

I need to add a second tow hook to my inventory, but it seems ridiculous to spend $XX for a bolt with an eye in it.

All I can find is that the 986 uses a 16mm width. Anyone use an aftermarket hook?

I have two spares that are no longer needed. One is stock, the other is Rennline which folds down (so it doesn't hit you in the shin when you walk by) and it has a removable GoPro mount. Let me know if you want one. Free including shipping.

Stone, it would be entirely inappropriate for me to ask for consideration on that offer, haha, but i'd love to know where you got that hook with the gopro mount on it? That's wicked cool!

Truer words never spoken...
I usually don't put my tow hook on but decided to do so at Indy. Came scooting around the front of the car and slammed my left shin into the factory hook. %&*@$.
That sucker hurt for 3 wks and I can still feel the welt 2 mo later.

If mgfranz wants the stock tow hook, the Rennline is yours. Otherwise, you can find them here:

Rennline Folding Tow Hook - REV1-Rennline, Inc.

Rennline GoPro Camera Tow Hook Mount-Rennline, Inc.

You know guys, what a great forum this is! :-) not to get all sappy with you on a Wednesday morning, but look at this stuff that goes on here, with the sharing of knowledge, parts,! :-) it's just fun! I'm quickly becoming a Porsche Guy, where I never have been before. And that's all about the community.

Oh I know we SHOULD.... but not many DO.

FWIW: I've been involved in a number of other car enthusiast communities over the years, and few show this sort of,...., well: community.
Perhaps the corvair people are an exception.... but they're also weird.

Here you go, no threads needed, just sticks on with adhesive:

Several styles to choose from

What a great idea, Steve! The adhesive hooks are so much cheaper, it just doesn't make any sense at all to have a threaded tow hook, does it?
