Rain tires

Some how I closed the season out at 2 DE events with allot of rain. I thought if I took my street tires they would be better in the wet. Wrong! Has any one found a decent tire for tracking their car in the rain.

Yes, Conti Extreme Contact DW is a fantastic rain tire. I normally run the widest dry track tires I can fit (like 255 front / 285 rear), but for rain tires, I am running much narrower (like 205 front / 245 rear) for good hydroplane resistance.

At one wet DE, I almost lapped the whole field. GRM magazine tested these Conti's in the rain, and found that they were fairly close to Hoosier wets, and at much lower cost than the HoHo's.

Good luck.

Wow, that's a great price compared to the Hoosier wets.

Ditto on running a narrower tire. That is probably why you found your normal street tire less than satisfactory.

I have found that the Michelin PS2 is incredible in the rain - almost as much grip as dry. In R-compound tires, I'd vote for the Toyo RA-1 which is intended as a rain race tire.

I love the Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 in the wet.
