Hi,
The Brey-Krause Extinguisher mount is a well made piece and installation is pretty easy 1.5-2.0/10. You usually need to wiggle it a bit because the tolerance on the drillings is very tight, but that's a good thing and it just takes a little patience, it will all line up. You will need to remove the seat, but that's no big thing, loosen 4 torx bolts and disconnect a couple connectors. The later cars use a pyro-techni charge on the Seatbelt retractors, so you will want to disconnect the Battery for at least 5 min. before beginning to avoid setting one off accidentally. You will also need to buy a half dozen SS bolts and nylock nuts to mount the extinguisher bracket to the BK one. Use SS because you don't want to unleash an ankle-breaking missile in the event of a collision.
It took me about 45 min. to install mine at a leisurely pace, but I didn't have to deal with the battery, so maybe 1 hr for you tops. BTW, I used the r-2020 which mounts to either seat - mounted on passenger side, I see that you will use the r-2035 which mounts only to the Driver's seat (even though their example pic shows the Passenger Seat). Good time to consider encasing the Alarm Module since you'll have the seat out anyway - something to consider.
@porsche986spyder - The Boxster does have a history of engine fires. I would never own any mid-engine car (and I own 2) without a Fire Extinguisher (and they both have one). It's just not the smartest idea. I use a Halon extinguisher which leaves no residue to clean up afterwards should you ever need to discharge it. Hope this helps...

DJ thanks for the link but it was for a 996 and I think 997 and 987 have different mounts, or am i wrong? At least that's what it looks like from the BKauto.com website.

Jim, R-2035 was the only mount I could find for a 987. It can be mounted on the passenger side only with power seats. With standard seats it only goes on on the driver's side, for some reason.
What does "encasing the Alarm Module" mean and why would I want to do that?

Hi,
There have been quite a few failures/shorts of the Alarm Modules on these cars. The module sits under the Drivers seat and gets wet if rain seeps in, the top is down in a storm or even from washing. The problem is the module (some $3500 to replace and reprogram) gets wet and shorts out. The car won't start and most of the electronics go screwy - pretty poor design considering it's a convertible.
My suggestion to one lister was to place the box in a Tupperware container drilled to accept the mounting points on the floor. This would allow as much as 1.5-2 inches of water before the Alarm Module was threatened. Simple, out-of-sight fix for a couple bucks vs $3500...

Thx for the info, Jim. I'm a bit reluctant to start dismantling things without a proper manual (no Bentley for 987 yet) and while the car is still under warranty. Cars these days have all sorts of 'traps' that can make a nightmare out of even the easiest DYIs if you miss something. If that Alarm Module DOES break (or if I break it while 'protecting' it  ) and I take it to the dealer, what will they make of my Tupperware container? So, probably I won't be doing that while under warranty.
Anybody found illustrated instructions on installing the extinguisher mount or at least on taking the seats out in a 987?
