When I asked them if I just wanted them to do the oil change (I can do the checks myself), I was told "same charge".

They may do quality work, but I don't know if its worth _that_ much!

Yeah prices are higher, but quality of work is really good (oil change should not matter). Try fremont porsche - ask for Gunther, they are best dealer service around.

Heyer performance charged me $270 for a plain oil change last year - I have not gone back and that is what led me to the mistake of going to C.T. Automotive.

Seattle area mechanic

"Anyone know a good independent mechanic in the Seattle/Everett area? (I live near Lynnwood, halfway between Seattle & Everett)

I just bought a 2000 Boxster S (my first Porsche) with 16,000 miles on it. Although it drives and sounds great and I have no indication of any problems, I did have built into the contract a provision for a full refund if there are any major mechanical defects. I think I'd probably be smart to get it checked out by a good Porsche-trained mechanic. I gather a dealer may not be my best bet. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Old Blevins

old Blevins,

I always had fantastic service from Ken at European Car Authority in Redmond (425.881.2185). I've recently moved to Baltimore and will sorely miss his expertise. Enjoy your S.

For anyone in the Baltimore/DC area, I'm looking for a new mechanic and would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

I saw where SC posted about Eurowerks Motorsports in Matthews, NC. Is there another body shop in the Charlotte area? Someone cut the rear window of the Boxster, and I don't feel like putting $3000 into a new top/window, which is all that a dealership will do.

Leith Porsche in Raleigh was great and gave me the name of a local shop who would do just the window, and the manager there, Chris, said that it was foolish to replace a good top just to get the window replaced. I called Hendrick Porsche in Charlotte, and the manager there just blew me off for doing "Non-Porsche dealership repairs". Ppffttttt on Hendricks!

New Orleans Area

Well, I ended bringing my Boxster S to a German P-Car specialty shop called Greff Motors in Metairie on Airline Hwy near Clearview. Randy Greff has quite the good reputation of Porsche racing and performance mods and does great work in a very clean, exceptionally organized shop. While not the cheapest place, it is the same price as the dealership on Veterans, he does get work done quickly and accurately the first time. www.greffmotors.com

I have also heard that Lindsey Automotive in Kenner actually has some exceptional mechanics (German techs and owner) --- I will have to check them out next time I need to get work done. We shall see!

Thumbs up for Eurotech Tuning German Auto Specialist

F.Y.I., just wanted let all Porsche owners in the Bay Area know there is a great guy named Matthew Landau, owner of Eurotech.
Review:
He did a great job on a broken rear wheel bearing, all 4 brakes and oil change service on my 1998 Porsche Boxster. And a reasonable price too! Plus a free inspection of my car. If your looking for a reliable, excellent auto mechanic, call Matt. Ok to mention my name! Dede - 1998 pastel yellow Boxster

If your interested here is a little more detailed information about Eurotech Tuning, Matt Landau, owner.
I met Matt at a PCA GGR Boxster Brunch - Alices Restaurant, Woodside, about two years ago. Matt came up on his own and introduced himself to the whole group, bought us all breakfast. He owns 3 Porsches and I was impressed about him wanting to work only on Porsches. He also works on BMW's. Apparently, he has some great equipment, machines, etc to do some upgrades on Porsches. (performance I think) All in all I kept his business card that day and thought I am going to give him a chance when I need some car work done. I guess I had a good feeling about him. He even told us all he would like to do a tech session some time, if we were interested.
Regarding the work on my car................. I had a noise in the rear wheel area. Plus I needed a oil change, etc. Matt said no problem, bring your car in, I will give you a free inspection and let you know what is urgent and make recommendations to consider. No pressure. Found my vehicle in need of four wheel brake job, all new pads, rotors, and sensors. ( I was due for a brake service soon) Service included cleaning and lubricating all moving parts, also painting rotor hats with high temp paint. Cleaned all wheels and checked balance. Found faulty left rear wheel bearing. Which was the noise I heard. Recommended replacing left rear wheel bearing and wheel hub assembly. Included pressing of new wheel hub assembly. Oil and filter change with Mobil 1 oil. Checked and adjusted all fluid levels, tire pressure, inspected brakes. Interrogated diagnostic fault memory of engine control unit. Washed and vaccum my car for me. Offered to lend me a loaner car if I needed a car while my car was in the shop. Work included 12 months 12000 mile warranty. I was very pleased with the quick and detailed information about my car verbally from Matt. He knows what he is doing and I rate him high from 1-10, a 10, which is the highest. For excellence, quality, honesty, timeliness, cleanliness of shop, good customer service and most of all his desire to work on Porsches. Hope this helps to consider Matt for your next Porsche car service. Just give him a call if you have any questions.
Check out his website for pictures: http://www.eurotechtuningca.com

Have a good one,
Dede

Midwest Eurosport

I am very surprised as well. I am new to Boxster ownership but recently acquired an 04 Silver Anniversary Boxster S. One of my good friends races a 944 turbo and recommended Midwest Eurosport. The dealer quoted 1,200 dollars for 30K maintenance and they were able to do it for only 370. They were efficient and professional. I will be going back again come March (hopefully when the snow clears)

Does anyone recommend other garages?

Personally, I dont think that they were that helpful especially how easy they informed me that they "HAVE TO" drop the engine to install a simple intake i informed them that they were the only Porsche repair place that has made that statement. Every other place states 2 to 3 hours to do the intake them 6 to 8 hours

This thread is a great idea as a starting point for something very useful. But its becoming very cumbersome to use or find anything one might need. Would someone consider summarizing the responses by city or area, create a chart, something useful so we don't have to go through 75 or more responses to find something relevant. And then keep it updated. Doing so might get a few more responses too, which, of course would be added to the summary! lol. Lots of work I know! Since the moderators don't have anything else to do, this might be a good task for them to enhance the site! :D

Well I'm new to this forum but not to Auto mech. or Porsches. I don't see alot of people from here in my area but anybody in the central Va area (I'm in Charlottesville) in need of help, advice or just someone to work on thier car drop me PM.
I would be glad to help out, or just do it. The shop I work at is a good place, and i am the only Porsche mech. they have.

I used these guys last year- highly recommended. Only Porsche and as they say "Oil Changes to full track prep and support". I don't have a link handy as I am out of time today, but it is easy enough to find.
